I have some phones with Google Maps 2.2.3 version. In the application
there is a Bluetooth option where you can set the Bluetooth device. I
just downloaded Google Maps to another phone, and it downloaded 2.3.2
and that option is not available anymore? Am I missing it somewhere?
I have my blackberry paired with a GPS receiver puck that resides in
my technicians truck. This is what I want Google Maps to pull
coordinates from so I can track their whereabouts in-house.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks-
But the connection between phone and gps probably doesn't work much
more than about 10-20 meters, because the range is not so much. And if
there are walls, stuff, vehicles, boxes etc. between and other
devices, it doesn't help the situation either. With some Bluetooth usb-
adapters, between similar adapters, I've seen range is told to be even
100 or so meters, but that doesn't mean it will work with all other
devices.
And if you really mean some indoors, the gps probably would not work
very well, and maybe doesn't give location at all even your BB or
other GMM equipped phone was next to it. If you have some large
outdoor factory/storage etc. area, then gps could work, but you
probably need some other way to relay that location to you.
Depending on your case, some vehicle pc manufacturers have vehicle pcs
even for lift trucks etc. And they can be equipped with wlan/wi-fi,
that has (much) longer range than bluetooth between phones or gps
devices. And it could be used to transfer also other data between your
servers and trucks. Or if wlan coverage is not enough, then maybe some
gsm/3g etc. data card. Or if vehicle pc is too much, maybe some pda or
smartphone, that has program for reading the gps location and sending
it forward. GMM does not have such feature, at least not yet.

Hey, thanks for responding. During this test process I have the BB
and GPS puck receiver right next to each other - so I shouldn't have
the issue with being too far away, at least not right now. Again, I
have some phones with Google Maps 2.2.3 version loaded on it. In the
application there is a Bluetooth option where you can set the
Bluetooth device. On my newest device I loaded Google Maps and it
loaded a new version.- 2.3.2 In this version I don't have the option
to set the Bluetooth device? Am I missing it somewhere, or has Google
taken it away?
Thanks
