I have a cingular 8525 and a bluetooth GPS unit. I have a program called telenav that uses the bluetooth fine, but google maps doesn't seem to find the GPS reciever.

Same problem on a Treo 700wx. I am basically a PalmOS Treo expert and I have Google Maps for PalmOS on my Treo 700p. The Google Maps for PalmOS doesn't support GPS at all, but I also have TeleNav, Mapopolis, and EMTAC Navigator (commercial mapping programs with GPS ability..) .. on two different Treos and all three programs of them see and work fine with two different Bluetooth GPS receivers I own
So being a Windoze Mobile moron, I installed the new Google Maps for WM (Pocket PC) on my Treo 700wx It works fine by itself for pulling down maps and finding locations and all its other functions but.. I paired it with one of my Bluetooth GPS receivers, and that worked, but when I try to use any GPS functions in Google Maps for Pocket PC it grinds away for a minute and then says it can't find my GPS receiver or that it's incorrectly configured or some such nonsense
I hate WM and don't have a clue what I'm doing wrong or what IT'S doing wrong
Could someone post a step-by-step walkthrough to set up a Bluetooth GPS receiver on a WM5 / Pocket PC device and get Google Maps to actually see and USE it? Do I have to dick around with COM port settings? If so, what and which and how?
Again, these are both current model SiRF Star II GPS receivers. Three different PalmOS GPS programs pair with and use them just fine on my Treo 650 and Treo 700p. But the 700wx (Pocket PC) sees the receiver, pairs with it, but Google Maps refuses to recognize it or do anything with it and just yells at me that it can't find my receiver even though it's paired with it :(
Step-by-step instructions would be useful.. in this case, necessary :-/
I have this same problem with my 8525 and a holux bluetooth GPS. GPS works fine with other applications, but not with Mobile Maps. My _guess_ is that mobile maps is hard coded to read from 1 specific com port (which the docs dont tell you what it is) If you have the time and patience, you could try setting up your bluetooth on all of the com ports and see if it will work on any of them. I can tell you com9 wont work. Personally Ill just use Virtual Earth mobile until its fixed.

I'm using GMM with BT GPS receiver SirfStarIII, it work on my device only if I use WM5 GPS SHARING, if I use directly COM port of BT paired GPS receiver GMM don't detect... My GPS is binded to COM4, so I've set WM5 GPS manager to virtualize COM5 onto hardware COM4, and now work.

Hint: You must wait about 1 minute after you make the registry change before you reset the phone. Most WM5 systems use a write cache for the registry. If your GPS function is not shown, go to the registry path described above and see if it is back. If the value you deleted has returned, then you must wait longer before resetting the phone.
Now go to the GPS icon in your Main Menu / Settings (Tab-System) and set the Program Comm port to Com1. Click on the Hardware tab and set the Com port to the com port used by your Bluetooth GPS unit.
Done
Warning! Messing with the registry should only be done by people who are comfortable doing it. If you are new to making registry changes, BACK UP YOUR DATA!!!

On a Smartphone WM5 (HTC s620), this did the trick to get data from a bluetooth GPS:
1.) The following registry key must exist: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver \Drivers" ( keys .\GPS Intermediate Driver\Drivers offen missed)
2.) The following value must exist under the key "Drivers" (type REG_SZ): CurrentDriver = "My GPS Driver"
3.) The following registry key must exist: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS IntermediateDriver \Drivers\My GPS Driver"
4.) The following values must exist under the key "My GPS Driver" (type REG_SZ): InterfaceType = "COMM" FriendlyName = "My GPS Driver" CommPort = "COM6:" (If you set up your bluetooth device to another COM-Port you can use this value for the CommPort registry value )

I have a T-Mobile MDA and am tryng to get my Holux GPSlim 240 to work. It works with MS Street but not Google maps (I love google maps mobile).
I don't have a reg editor and am cautious about messing things up. I have 2 questions: 1. Did Google post any instructions on how to set up a GPS for Google Maps for Mobile? 2. Has anyone used the Reg entries provided by TransFXB on a T-Mobile MDA? Thanks.

2. Deleted the key that said Redirect even though it had no value as instructed in the link above.
3. I got my Holux connected via bluetooth screen and set the device to use COM6 and activated it so it was communicating.
4. I opened the GPS app in the settings/system tab.
5. I set the GPS Program port to COM2
6. I set the GPS Hardware Port to COM6 the same as I used to link the Holux via Bluetooth in step 3.
7. I set the the Buad Rate to 33600 on the Hardware tab of the GPS app.
8. I tried to use the viewer that came with the Holux but it would not work when set to use COM2. Also, this viewer only supports a baud rate of 38400 and that baus rate is not a choice in the GPS app. I quit the GPS viewer to free up the port.
9. I then tried Google Maps and, I could not believe it, it works
So, Google Maps for Mobile is really cool now. I have Traffic and GPS data on my phone. The GPS puts a nice little blue dot at the present location.

If you have a Cingular 8525 and a Blue Logger gps device, these instructions got me going so that both Windows Live Search and Google maps now work great:
It was configuring the outgoing port that had me stymied - didn't know I had to do that!
By the by, in the GPS mini-program (the one that let's multiple devices use the device simultaneously), I have the hardware port at COM 8 but the baud rate at 9600. Don't know if a different setting would work, just thought I'd pass that along.
I also have the Earthmate Blue Logger BT receiver, and it won't even work with the Delorme Street Atlas 2006 Handheld software that came with it. It DOES work with Google, however. So, a free application is better than a $50 one; nice work Google. I have a PPC6700 from Alltel, with Windows Mobile 5 AKU2.2. I'd be glad to help anyone that needs it, I've already helped my brother (he also has a PPC6700 from Alltel).

I just received an OnCourse Bluetooth GPS Edition 2 (OEM version of BT-359). I installed it to my Treo 700wx and it worked fine with all (yes, several) GPS mapping programs / utilities, except GMfm (just like everyone else is seeing).
I started playing around with it, changing settings and such, and stumbled on this interesting bit; One of my mapping programs (TomTom) has the ability to go directly to the Bluetooth controller to access the OnCourse (BT-359). If I override this setting and force that one program to use the virtual COM port that WM5 is creating (COM4, in my case), then GMfm can connect and all is well. If I don't override and let that program (TomTom) use the direct BT connection, even if that program is not running, GMfm cannot connect. According to the instructions that display with GMfm, it has to use the GPS Manager of WM. (The fact that it hoses up GMfm even if TomTom is not running suggests to me that there is a registry setting somewhere that 'remembers' that someone is bypassing the WM5 GPS Manager software.)
Check your other mapping software settings and make sure they are all set to match the virtual settings of WM GPS. Try it and see.
