I'm writing with information about a new web site I'm hoping will interest you, and asking for your help in spreading the word about it.
Cartoon Classroom was opened on October 3rd, and it's aim is to centralise all information in the UK and Southern Ireland on the study of cartooning and sequential art.  As you're no doubt aware, cartoon workshops and talks are now being run regularly in many libraries, and have proved valuable to them, but it isn't always easy for librarians to find people to run such things.  One of our aims is to help solve this problem by listing all those who are available for this work on one site, categorising them by locale, so that any library or institution can immediately check who's in their area, or willing to travel to it.
I've attached a flyer here which briefly describes the other aims of our site, and an invitation to the site's London launch is also attached.  Some background information on the site is below this message.
With thanks,
David Lloyd,
for Cartoon Classroom.

About Cartoon Classroom.

Cartoon Classroom is the inspiration of Steve Marchant, a cartoonist and teacher of cartooning, who began his tutoring career at The London Cartoon Centre - a charity-run, full-time evening school of cartoon and sequential art, which thrived for many years before it ran out of funding.  Efforts to finance it were continued until it became obvious the Centre could not be resurrected and continued for any worthwhile period.  It then became a matter of deciding whether to return these donations to their source, or - at the permission of the donors - to use them to initiate something new to help the cause the Centre espoused.
Steve decided a good extension of the service the school once offered would be a website which had the main aim of centralising access to all the various means of studying cartoon and comic strip creation which exist throughout the UK and Southern Ireland.

Its fuller aims :

1) to put schools and libraries in touch with professional cartoonists/comic art creators who teach this specialised art form on a part-time or full-time basis.

2 ) to document whatever is available through art colleges, workshops, recommended manuals and other media, which can help anyone studying to be a good cartoonist/comic creator.

3 ) to list all museums and galleries in the area it covers which have comic/cartoon art on public view or in their archives, and to encourage those without any to acquire examples from local notable creators.

It's our intention that only a fraction of the information required for the site should be supplied by its administrators.  Instead, details of courses, collections, locations and availability of tutoring will be added directly to the site by all those who use it.  Ideally, it should be almost self-generating.
Importantly, the site should offer comprehensive information on the area it covers.  To achieve this, we are seeking contact with all the institutions and individuals in the area who can make use of it.
To register is easy - go to www.cartoonclassroom.co.uk.  Any questions you have about the site can be directed to contactcartoonclassr...@yahoo.co.uk.

Cartoon Classroom is a non-profit organization managed and run by Steve Marchant, Paul Gravett and David Lloyd.
