Hi Murchadh, All good thoughts, nothing to be ashamed of in
adaptation, the mainstream English language costume drama has built an
industry on it! We have funded a one-off I C Smith drama for airing
on GDS but it was very much toe in the water stuff. Thanks.

Dubbing and sub-titling .... how about this ... have some shows dubbed
into Gaelic with (optional) English subtitles, and then have a sort of
'Gaelic Channel +1' showing the same programme with the English
soundtrack and Gaelic subtitles? I'm guessing the magic of digital and

I think the idea of using bloggers, or people in an area is a good one
for special reports. It would certainly be a new approach, as far as I
know. The only thing that might suffer is the professionalism of the
reporting... the actual delivery, but that in certain circumstances
might not be so bad.

Do you think that possibly the previous discussion of a soap would
incorporate a younger audience, as you stated that a TV programme like
Coronation St would be something they may be interested in? Obviously
this is a programme with more of a cult following, it may be something

The new service will be funded by us (GMS) and the BBC. GMS is funded
by the Scottish Executive. Our current year funding is just under

This weekend we have commissioned coverage of the Fort William 2007
UCI Mountain Bike and Trials World Championships - which will be shown
in Gaelic on STV the following week. This is the kind of stuff that
we really shouldn't miss, and I am really pleased that we are doing

Alison, you have identified a major hurdle here. You're right, the
hardest part is often not the idea or the writing but knowing what to
do with it. I think that finding a way forward on this front would
