I guess you have javascript.options.strict set true. You can test this
by either looking at the value in about:config, or in Firebug >
Console > mini-menu > Show Strict.
Unfortunately this optional feature of Firefox is broken in several
ways. Eventually it may be fixed or the new Ecmascript strict option

I think your analysis is not correct. Firebug does not have such
dynamic code that it can 'develop' a bug.
I guess that Firebug is work just fine, since as you say at the
beginning it worked for you for a long time. So what could be another
explanation of the 'undefined'? My guess is that you installed

Hi,
I've been using Firebug for quite a couple of years on and off for js
debugging and dom inspecting, quite a lot.
Strangely today the plugin has developed a pretty bad bug. I'm using v
1.4.5.
No matter what site I look at, whenever I Inspect a Dom element all
markup is shoing with each tag having the work "undefined" in it.

Yes, just install Firebug 1.5b6, the problem is solved.

Since many thousands of users have been successful on many different
machines, we have to conclude that there is some problem on your
machine. But what that problem might be I cannot say. Perhaps you have
an unusual operating system or software that interferes with other
software, such as viruses or anti-viruses.

Hi, I have Firebug 1.4.5 and Firefox 3.5.6 under Windows Vista Home
Premium and Ubuntu 9.10.
Firebug displays in console many warnings and sometimes errors too for
each site I am visiting or developing.
Errors are always almost the same like these:
reference to undefined property this.tag.context
[Break on this error] Filtered chrome url chrome://firebug/content/dompl ate.jsdomplate.js

Is there any way to configure Firebug so that script errors are
visible even when the line of code that they refer to is very long? I
often find that I can't read the error message because it is obscured
by the code itself.

I guess this maybe related to our work to turn off the javascript
debugger API when you are not debugging a web page. If so the reason
we have a hard time reproducing it would be things like the number of
tabs, windows, and which ones are using Firebug.

Be on the look out for the circumstances that cause it to happen/not

You are missing the version number of Firebug and the other extensions
you have installed.

If you just want to fix it, create a new Firefox profile and install
Firebug 1.5b6, see [link]
