Last Saturday I completed the Endurance Life Exmoor marathon, I ran/
walked it slowly and im feeling pretty good, now im wondering if I
could carry on building my training up to do the 'Classic Quarter'
43miler run from Lizard Point to Lands End around the 27th of June?
Its only about 6 weeks away but It seems possible to me, does anyone
have any advice? do you think its doable?
hi - i was going to do the 45 miles from lizard to lands end, i have
never done anything like that before so in february i decided to do
the route over two days to see what it was like
i did it with my brother-in-law who has done a 50 mile race before
(Mont Blanc) - we did 25 miles on the 1st day in 6hrs 20mins and 20
miles on the 2nd day in 5hrs and 30mins - there was a total ascent of
13,501 feet and descent of 13,290 feet
it was hard work but good fun, however, i decided after the
experience that i was not prepared to put in the training that i would
need to do to be able to complete the race in one day
note - the ground in feb was quite boggy in places which did slow us
down
in answer to your question, yes it is doable if you are prepared to do
the training

Hey Steve
You gotta go for it!!
The Classic Quarter sounds such a great event, I'm thinking of it as
a journey/adventure not a race although I'll try to do it as quickly
as I can within reason. I've only ever ran 2 marathons, South Devon
(Feb) and then the Exmoor last week. I was speaking to a girl the
night before 'Exmoor' she seemed to be an average half marathon runner
and has entered the Classic Quarter. I think there's gonna be such a
mix of people of all abilities, from racing snakes to weekend joggers/
walkers.
I'll be doing a few longish runs of 20 miles+ between now and then and
a couple of shorter runs with hills every week, but no more than 40
miles a week, plus the odd bike ride. Most importantly, hardly
anything the week before the event, just eat and drink well, before,
during and after.
Good Luck and see you on the start line!!
Rob.

Yes, I'm sure you could manage it Steve. Exmoor was tough! A fellow
runner of mine did the Classic Quarter last year on very little
running and he had a great time. He was slow mind you, but he never
intended on racing it. I'm trying to run with tired legs to experience
what it will feel like on the day. Its getting the nutrition right and
ignoring those negative feelings. Mental strength is the biggest
challenge! I live 10 miles from the Lizard and can say that the
course is wonderful. It does get tough the nearer you get towards
Landsend. On the day we have to hope for light breezes, not a full on
southwesterly.

Hi Steve,
I say that if you managed the Exmoor marathon with no real problems,
then as long as training is sensible up till the event then why not.
When you do events like these you often have to take a step into the
unknown at some point. As long as you have a healthy respect for just
how demanding it will be, you are very well organised (Food, fluid,
clothing and pace) then that is half the battle. The scenery is so
good it'll hopefully take your mind off of the pain!
Go for it.
I would, but will be at Glastonbury. Have entered Classic cliffs
though!
Cheers,
Neil.

If I can do it twice anyone can! My brother-in-law walk/jogged it last
year in 12 hours with just five-a-side football for training.
There is more information on the Facebook page for the event including
my obsevations on training badly in the first year and a bit better
the second - thoroughly enjoyed both weirdly!
