Huawei e160 on the Elonex oneT 3g connectivity problems

Thomas Jackson <thomascjack...@googlemail.com>

This shouldn’t be as difficult as it is.
This is my list on how to do it, do not depart from the list or
install anything which could affect the 3g or it won’t work.
1.      Upgrade the firmware (different to the OS).
GO to http://194.150.201.35/cnmlifestyle/cnmbook/CnMNB7BEsupport.htm
and download the latest firmware flash (v70 at 26/06/09)
Format a SD card with FAT
Extract the above (two files only – uImage and v70-cnmbook.png) on the
card
Boot the machine with the card in the left hand socket (not in the USB
card reader)
Press and hold Shift FN F1 until book is complete then restart.
Check that the png with v70 in the topleft hand corner shows on boot.
If this does not work you will need to retry with different media and
a fresh download until it does work.
2.      Upgrade the OS

GO to http://194.150.201.35/cnmlifestyle/cnmbook/CnMNB7BEsupport.htm
and download the latest recovery image
Format a SD card with FAT
Extract the above onto the card
Boot the machine with the card in the left hand socket (not in the USB
card reader)
Press and hold F3 until you get to the recovery console
Follow on screen prompts and wait for around 5-30 minutes whilst OS is
installed.
If this does not work you will need to retry with different media and
a fresh download until it does work.
Note – other OSs are available such as 3MX and Elonex OneT
3.      Patch

Establish a wired or wireless internet connection and go to package
management and download all patches (eight at 26/06/09).

GO to http://194.150.201.35/cnmlifestyle/cnmbook/CnMNB7BEsupport.htm
and download the 3g drivers (ap-mobileconnection-r3-v03 and driver-
modem-v70) then install them

Restart

4.      Plug in USB modem

Ensure than the SIM has no PIN (can be removed with a normal mobile).
This should launch the 3g application, if not and if the device isn’t
recognised then you will have to start again

5.      Configure
This will depend on settings available from your provider and some
details are here at http://194.150.201.35/cnmlifestyle/downloads/3g.htm
under installing 3g.
General tips include always using static dns ip addresses (the same
for all UK networks) and using *99# as the phone number.

If you can connect on a different machine with your settings but they
do not work on this Elonex it may mean that you have to start again.

Installing the e220 drivers or reinstalling any of the above packages
or installing the above packages in a different order can cause this
to always hang on dialup.
