Subject: Virgin Newbie Linux and Elonex onet
Hi
I have obtained a machine it has 2gb ram and currently a 2gb sd
installed. 32 gb SD ordered

The primary funtion is a holiday PC for email, posting picture to
picasa, editing photos, playing video and music. The media programme
with the OS is poor and there is no viable photo editor

Is there better media player and how do Install the picasa programme
downloaded from google or would gimp work??

Can a flash player be installed?

Should I change the operating system to Linpus lite?

I have downloaded the image and it is saved on the SD

Can anybody give pros and cons?

Can anybody provide idiot proof instructions for any or all?

All advice welcome

Colin

Hi Colin,

I think you overestimated this little laptop:

The Elonex does not have 2 GB RAM, it has 2GB Flash memory divided in 1GB for the operating system and 1 GB for the user. It has only 128MB ram so any photoediting and such will be problematic. The processor used in the Elonex is an Jz4730 from Ingenic which is MIPS compatible (not Intel or AMD) which means you can not simply install another OS unless it is specifically made for this processor and hardware.

On http://www.littlelinuxlaptop.com you can find some experimental OS alternatives for the Elonex (or Trendtac etc.)

Gert
