Subject: Cannot engage software recovery mode
Hi Folks,

I wanted to install an alternate OS, but when I tried, I think I've
damaged the native software, and I can't get it to do the software
recovery thing.

I have downloaded the files, put them on an SD card, in the slot and
tried to boot from it.
There seems to be some uncertainty around t'internet about which
buttons to press to do this:
some say F3, some Shift-Fn-F2, etc.
I have tried various combinations, but they all end up showing the
standard boot screen for an indefinite period (i.e. until I get bored
and turn it off).
One or two of the combinations cause the screen to flash and go purple
first, but the end result is the same.

If I switch off, and on again, then it still boots with the old OS,
but the touchpad and WIFI no longer work.

I did think about trying to follow the instructions on Linux From
Scratch, but for a start, I couldn't work out where the main drive is
located /dev/<somewhere> I guess.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
'loon.

Fit Like?

There's actually two parts to the ONEt recovery - a uimage file that's
loaded using Shift+Fn+F1 and a recovery image loaded using F3.

The versions of the two parts need to match - I had a problem with USB
devices after I did an F3 load without the matching uImage load - see
the discussion on:

http://groups.google.co.uk/group/elonexone/browse_thread/thread/c7daf...

Fuller instructions for the F3 load are at:

http://groups.google.co.uk/group/elonexone/browse_thread/thread/4d2ea...

One of the key things there is that the recovery image installation
takes quite a few minutes with nothing apparently happening - the
speed depends in part on how fast your SD card is - things have worked
best for me when I've left things severely alone for half-an-hour or
so and come back to a working machine...

Hope this helps you to overcome your problem.

Ed

Thanks, but still no joy.  I think it is broken. :(
