Subject: Happy Birthday
Hi All

Well doesn't time fly.

Around the first week in March last year, I approached the Committee
and proposed that the Club have their own website, and they were all
in favour, in broad terms.
(I had tried this about 10 years ago but the time wasn't right in
1996).

Yes it was a year ago (this Saturday to be exact) that I made a
presentation to the EFCC Committee to convince them that our own
website would be good for the Club.

At a subsequent meeting, the Commiittee gave their full support both
to the website and of course, the necessary funding for setting up and
running the site.

Well, what a year this has been:

Rose May offered to be our webmistress and set it all up for us, so
Rose and I started playing around with the format and layout etc.
She initially started to build the website as part of her own website
to give us a taste of how it would look, and it was looking very good.

I then set up a URL for the Club (www.eastfarleighcruisingclub.co.uk)
with UKReg and set up the Hosting with Fasthosts to give us 750mb
webspace and unlimited email addresses, and after a few trials and
tribulations, Rose managed to publish the site to our own host, and
get it up and running.

Rose then continued to build our website, and the rest as they say is
"HISTORY"......

In my opinion, we have a website that is user-friendly, well informed
and well structured, full of interesting information and content, and
is far better than many other club websites I have visited on the
internet.  (the Maidstone River Festival Website were so impressed
that they gave us a mention and a link from the River Festival Website
- check it out).

Rose has done an excellent job with the layout and getting it all
working correctly, and I feel it is a site that we can be proud of as
a Club.

My personal thanks go to Rose for setting up an excellent Website for
us, and continuing to populate and improve it over the past year.
Sorry about all the sleepless nights you have had Rose!

Now, If you feel that your website is missing something, then let Rose
or myself know and we will get your idea up and running for you.

Please visit your  website regularly for all the latest
news(especially on Red Diesel), and don't forget to have a go at my
"brain teaser".

Happy Boating and Surfing and of course, Birthday...

Fred
Vice Commodore
