Using simple Inheritance model do all columns have to be defined in
the base class or can columns also be defined in the child classes?

They must be defined in the parent.

Can I define relations in the sub classes or do they have to be in the
base class too?

I am pretty sure you can define relationships in the child classes, but not
columns.
