Subject: Soups Keep Hunger at Bay!
Anyone that has tried dieting in the past will know that hanger pangs
between meals can lead to raids on the fridge and skirmishes in the
kitchen, resulting in serious consequences for your diet.

It's well known that foods rich in protein provide the body with high
levels of satiety and help keep you felling fuller of longer. What's
not so well know is that the way you prepare the food can also have a
similar effect. Studies have shown that eating the same quantity of
food as a soup rather than as solids or even solids washed down with
lots of water, will keep hunger at bay for longer.

The liquid in the soup helps stretch the stomach more than eating the
equivalent amount of food as solids. Simply drinking water with the
solids doesn't work, as the water quickly drains through the stomach.
By adding the water to the food to make soup, the water takes longer
to drain through the stomach. This keeps the stomach stretched for
longer, providing a prolonged feeling of satiety and keeps those
hunger pangs at bay!

Think of the stomach as a sieve. If you add large lamps of food to a
sieve and poor water over it, the water will pass straight through.
However, if you mush the food and water up into a purée, it will take
much longer to drain through the sieve.
