Hello and welcome to the COPs homepage.

This group is intended as a forum and point of contact for anyone interested in cycling in the area of Poynton.

Cycling and cyclists represent a widely varying interest group, from the occasional recreational rider, to the more serious enthusiast. But, while you might be planning a world trip, or just wanting to use a bike to get around the local area, there is a common bond in cycling. Moving at a human pace, silently gliding along, able to stop at will and communicate with others, or pause and take in the peace of the moment in the countryside. The simple utility of the machine can open horizons for many. As a lifelong cyclist, I hope that this local forum will encourage the use and enjoyment of bicycles around our village and beyond.

You may wish to ask a question, give advice, organise a ride, contact fellow cyclists, or express an opinion (politely please !)

It is easy and free to join. Just go to the Google Groups homepage and create an account, then you can join our group and post messages and take part in discussions. It's as easy as that.

As a new group, it depends on your input, so join the COPs group and post away !

Poynton is a lovely area to live. Many people enjoy cycling around the area, both for recreation and personal transport. We have the Middlewood Way and Lyme Park within easy reach. There are cycle friendly rail services from Poynton Station that enable travel to Manchester and Stoke. There are also cycle friendly trains from Hazel Grove Station ( or Middlewood Station) which provide access to the Peak District for a day ride ( or to save the long climb !)

There are many circular routes around the area that can be enjoyed as an evening or day ride. Many of the roads and tracks are very quiet on weekdays, ideal for those who are not tied to the 9 to 5 !

If you have a favorite ride around the area, why not share it by posting a discription, you may find that others follow in your tracks.
