I just realised there's a flaw in this as (it seems)
PassOptionsToPackage is only for future RequirePackage and thus it won't
work after the package xolor has been loaded, which is the case in the
code above.

Whenever there is a new active maintainer,
PLEASE remove the line
\def\show#1?{\toks255{#1}\type out{\the\toks255}}
from ucsencs.def. It's some leftover garbage from debugging.
Unhappily \show is usually a TeX primitive very useful for debugging
and its redefinition is quite a annoyance.
I had reported this to Dominik Unruh, he agrees, but didn't

Weeelllll..... I don't think it is correct. The waiting period is
there for when
an author/maintainer disappears without turning over the software, but
in
this case I would read the statement "New maintainer welcome" as
turning over stewardship, thus removing the need for a waiting period.
It would probably be best to wait at least *some* time though.

I saw your message and was confident that the error had already been
fixed (though not yet in the public version of the manual). It seemed
to me that the OP didn't realize that the error was still in his code.

as per the below method:

file, meant to appear in a different color (using the color package).
I defined this environment:

Well, it's actually in there. (Section 12.6) But it's true that the
beamer guide is not so easy to get through.
For beamer, no. For more general latex things, the LaTeX Companion is
really useful. (But it's real book, so you have to buy it.)
