Oh! That's worth suggesting as something to be added. It is very useful and convenient, and probably not difficult to implement once the idea has been put into the programmer's mind.

It certainly is; but there's no reaon why it couldn't also be done in other apps such as M-Pro.

Well, in France I /do/ drive on the other side of the road, yes. Why? Because everyone else does, and it's appropriate to follow the local custom.
I agree that everyone /ought/ to be taught to post properly, but if you're reading a newsgroup where everyone else top-posts[1] then it's politer and more sensible to conform to the local style.
[1] Personally, I'm happy to say that I don't read any such groups, because all the groups I'm interested in are full of people who know how things should be done.

It doesn't work. Unless you start with posts at the bottom and read up (from the bottom line upwards) then top posting is still wrong.
Technically bottom posting is also wrong; you should interleve and snip as required - but one extreme of interleving with short mails is the same as bottom posting.
Like this.

Well, ironically, I just found out that it can be done with Entourage (the Mac X version of Outlook) by holding down shift while selecting Reply! Maybe the same would work with Outlook?

No, it doesn't: indeed, the Reply button click is then ignored.

I agree.
And also much faster!
Google groups always seems to be a couple of days out of date at least.

This used to be the case, but I find it's now (almost) in real time, ie. posts show up on Google only minutes after you've sent them.

I suspect that's intentional...

I've a vague recollection of trying more than just beeps on my own copy of InterNews - a few PLOTs via the relevant VDU codes. I can't remember if it worked, though.

It's been on the request list for some considerable time... probably dropped off the bottom now. :-(

I have several times looked for posts that I remember, and found that the most recent ones found by using the names or keywords that I put in precede the threads I am looking for by several years.

Maybe the posts you were looking for were X-No-Archived?

Coincidentally, we are just discussing this in uk.media.radio4.archers where top-posting is also frowned on - although there are only a small handful of RiscOS users.

Also... I'm subbed with a few PaintShop Pro NGs and as far as I know there are/were only two RO user on it, and despite it being a WinPC only app NG the general consensus is interleaved or bottom reply posting is the required norm.

Boohoo! All on my own. :-)
You were the other one I was thinking of Liz, I remembered you'd moved to the other graphic app, but couldn't remember if you still dabbled with PSP a bit, however Corel Version X being such an awful bug ridden dog, you are probably not missing that much... I've gone back to V9.01 for my work as no fixes seem to be coming for it.

Quite unlike those who listen to Got for it (surely the radio equivalent of the dark side? ace!)
I'd love to see a Venn diagram of Usenet subscriptions/postings, and what is might say about us. Educated, sensible, discerning but rather conventional (in a minority interest way) for RISC OS/Archers devotees?
