Virgin
I can't usually be bothered to read the junk mail that gets its way through - but this time I did. I'm in a 'Virgin' area - ie fibre cable network - and their offer for phone line and broadband looks pretty attractive price wise compared to my present BT and Pipex. But of course I'm wary about changing things that work ok - hence still using an RPC. ;-)... more »

New monitor
Hi folks, My current monitor, a 17" IIyama Vision Master Pro 400 is starting to play silly buggers on me. I've spoken to the local pc/tv repair guys and they say it's not worth repairing. So I need a new one. What do people reccomend, given that I do a lot of photo re-touching and colour balance and accuracy is very important.... more »

Huge scrap directory
Browsing through directories which I have never looked at before (as one does on a wet Saturday morning), I found in the HardDisc4 -> Utilities I found !ShowScrap. I clicked on it and it opened ADFS::HardDisc4.$.!BOOT.Resour ces.!Scrap.ScrapDirs.ScrapDir containing a HUGE number of hexadecimally-numbered TEXT files, and directories... more »

Guys and Trolls
Wikipedia is, as ever, interesting on the subject of trolls. That is, the originals from Norse mythology. They varied greatly in overall size, but were probably endowed with oversized ears and noses. Presumably this enabled them to get involved with /every/ conversation, and quickly smell trouble brewing.... more »

How do I get an A3020 out of Supervisor Mode?
Greetings all, I recently came across an Arch A3020 at a computer recycler. I had never seen one of these in North America before, so I thought I would pick it up and give it a go. I initially hooked it up to a recent (5years) VGA monitor, but couldn't get a signal. I then connected it to an older VGA (1988 era) IBM monitor. I did get a picture, but at... more »
