Subject: Filecore problem?
For some time I've been having occasional crashes when loading Newshound.
Completely locks up the machine requiring a hard reset. Today it seems to
be permanent. Running !Sick gets to doing the file core checks then also
crashes. If I boot just to the desktop and run it again, it shows
everything ok.

Now I don't really know what the file core is. I'm running RO 4.39. And
using a Unipod and IDEFS for the HDs.

This is being posted from another RPC.

Nobody got a pointer? I stripped the entire machine and cleaned every
connector. No difference. !Sick still reports the same error. But not if I
make it not run the boot sequence but go straight to the desktop.

Running Reporter http://www.avisoft.force9.co.uk/Reporter.htm , at boot,
may show what is causing the problem.

Thanks - I'll give that a try.

But the problem only happens when I run Newshound - nothing else. Even a
'clean' copy of Newshound that hasn't been configured.

I would suggest running Reporter, first without NewsHound in the boot
sequence, to confirm that all is well, then with NewsHound, to see the
difference.

Sorry, I'm a bit behind on my emails at the moment. I've just got
broadband installed in my new place, so should be catching up soon.

No problem. Sometimes emails disappear into thin air, so I wondered if
this was one of them. Glad to hear it's not!
