VRPC/RISC Book conversions

RCI push RISCbooks very vigorously and we're told that thousands of
people have VirtualRPC. So if they're so good, why aren't there more
efforts to convert PC titles? These could then be adjusted for genuine
RISC OS hardware machines. I don't know about VirtualRPC but RCI at
least still seem to have a lingering interest and care for the actual

Flashback on SA RiscPC

SimCity 2000 problems

Hello all
Having recently bought a copy of SimCity 2000 (RiscPC version), I'm
having enormous difficulty getting it to actually work on my RiscPC.
It won't work with either StrongARM or ARM610, ROS 4.39 or 3.7, SA
patched or not patched. The Krisalis logo comes up, then 'press space

Does this not already work? I have to admit, I have not tried it, but
I'd be surprised if this functionality was removed. It required software
emulation on all RISC OS machines in any case (as the VIDC's just a dumb
frame buffer) so it seems surprising to remove it, although it might have
something to do with finding a monitor that is willing to use the

Hi,
During the 1980s my brother had a BBC Micro, and subsequently an acorn
archimedes. I am trying to remember the name of a game, but I can't
remember which of these two machines it ran on. My brother was the
computer enthusiast!
Anyway, the game involved moving my character around a maze. Not

Elite in Radio Times

I noticed in last week's Radio Times that Braben & Bell are to be
featured in a series about British inventors. I'm not sure what it
says about the journalistic rigour of RT, but as well as calling the
game "The Elite" they also showed a screenshot of ArcElite, which
wasn't written by them.

There seems to be a point in this game where it's hard to accumulate
any more cash. I've got up about 26000 so far. The best weapons taking
cost and effectiveness into account seem to be a vertical5 and
explosive. Anything else, and you've spent any rewards you might earn
from the next round. Any better combination?

Acorn Archimedes - ROM images....

Hi all,
I came across this website in my hunt for SNES ROMs and was surprised to
see a link to download Archimedes software.

I'm not totally sure of the legality of some of the games (Quite a few
are from magazine coverdisks and/or PD) but I'm certain things like

Anyone remember this text based adventure game called Gorm? It was on
a cover disk on Archimedes World or something. Only really stands out
because I remember it being quite funny at the time. Does anyone know
