I have difficulty in reading this without thinking that you mean that all
PC/Mac users expect product support to be on websites.
What about the raft of companies who do support via maillists? Do you think
they don't exist?
Have you never explored, eg, the range of lists run on LISTSERV?
Do you think the authors of eg MAJORDOMO wrote it without seeing a need?

Have you ever conducted a survey of your customers to see what they think?
Mail lists don't require browsers at all. Why on earth did you ever think
that browsers mattered?

The same is true of mail lists and newsgroups.

on the PC) recently. I had to re-subscribe to one or two sites, as I had no
recollection of which password I'd previously signed up with.

The for(a|ums) seem quite good for support, a mailing list may be good for

Well, as someone else asked, would you like to put your comments about
fragmentation in a clear manner so they can be addressed. I have not seen any

Thanks Vince, the cheques in the post :-) However being
serious Vince is right, this is not a general mailing list
vs Forum arguement, this is specific one about support for
VirtualAcorn products.
Thanks for that, but *so far* there's lots of noise
but no action - which seems par for the course.

Now you are just being very silly. My statement stands as is.
A PC or Mac user has a reasonable expectation of being
able to visit the companies website for support on a product
they have purchased/are interested in.
This is *not* what I said. My posts are archived so you can
confirm this easily.
