Subject: Walk before you RUN
Try jumping into the deep water with the professionals (or amateurs who have
taken time and care to get the details right) and you will doubtless sink.

Anyone who has attempted to produce a large project without trying out small
examples first will doubtless remember licking their wounds and will agree
that it is all too easy to produce rubbish. Practice and small examples are
essential. "It takes a long time and a lot of practice - whatever the nostrums
the For Dummies books may bark at you".

So says Gavin WRAITH in his new series on Lua for Beginners in Qercus.
"Knowing Lua has become a marketable skill", and Gavin's series takes the
beginner from the basics of this scripting language for programmers.
Other scripting languages include Perl, Python, and Ruby - but Gavin argues
that Lua is possibly the fastest. And it's free for RISC OS as well as for
other platforms.

'Lua for Beginners' commenced in the current issue of Qercus (277) and a
subscription to the magazine starting with that issue costs just £49.95 for 12
issues (UK inc p&p). It is expected that the series will last for 8 issues and
there may be a further one or two issues including reader feedback and
replies. Other programming articles will be included in the issues alongside
the Lua series and we expect to commission another major series on programming
when Gavin's articles come to an end.

Qercus can be purchased through UK newsagents or direct from us but in future
we will be keeping fewer back issue copies than before.
A subscription costs less and you can save over 13% with a UK subscription.

Subscription (pounds sterling including postage)
12 issues: 49.95 (UK) - 59.05 (Europe) - 70.75 (World)
  6 issues: 27.95 (UK) - 32.84 (Europe) - 39.15 (World)

Single issues:
4.20 + p&p add 60p (UK), 1.30 (Europe), 2.20 (World)
