Using Garmin GPS-III+ as Time source
Hello: Just curious if this is usable as an NTP time source. I have an old Garmin GPS-III+ lying around here (its a small handheld GPS unit) that I can power from an AC Adapter and get a solid GPS signal out of indoors actually that will provide NEMA 0183 version 2.0 output from RS232 that I have already got a cable for.... more »

Isolated Network Drift Problem
Our NTP servers are slowly loosing time. All are in nearly perfect sync but collectively drift backwards over time. Is there a way to apply a bias to the drift calculations? We had to disconnect from the Internet several months ago. Since then we have had serious drift problems. Shortly after the disconnect I... more »

Isolated network
I have an isolated network which has no connections to the outside world. This includes any type of modem access. The machines are running Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.2 and I also have Cisco routers involved. What I would like to do is to assign one of my RHEL machines as my NTP server and have it synch off its local system... more »

ntp or other time stuff on virtual server?
A question has come up on another newgroup whethr or not the time can be disciplined via ntp (or chrony) on a virtual server. I would suspect not (imagine the mess if both ntp on one virtual server and chrony on another were both trying to discipline the same hardware clock, and I cannot see how the virtual OS could keep track of its own separate clock since it only... more »

Hopelessly broken clock?
I'm trying to set up ntp on a new Core2 Duo box running Fredora Core9. It appears that it's local clock runs several seconds an hour fast. I'm basing this on running ntpdate against the existing box I have running ntp with pps. It reports skewing the clock by seconds even after just a few minutes.... more »

Interpretation of Status field in NTP Control Message Headers
Hello, I have a question about the Status field in NTP Control Message Headers. On p.55 of rfc1305 it says: "Status: This is a 16-bit code indicating the current status of the system, peer or clock, with values coded as described in following sections." The rfc then lists four different interpretations of that field;... more »
