  essentially that&#39;s what my root console does. There is just no password &lt;br&gt; challenge. &lt;br&gt; That&#39;s a security hazard I am willing to accept for the convenience. I &lt;br&gt; don&#39;t recommend it, I just state that&#39;s my considered preference. &lt;br&gt; I have another machine that is set up to always ask for a master &lt;br&gt; password every time I do anything remotely admin. It gets on my tits.

  well its a risk yu dont need to take. &lt;br&gt; Youy can configure IIRC a no password user login, and put that user in &lt;br&gt; the root group so privileges needed for admin are granted automatically, &lt;br&gt; and still run as an unprivileged user..

  I strongly agree with your last paragraph above. It generalizes to any &lt;br&gt; large organization, because they have the economies of scale to learn to &lt;br&gt; administer Linux efficiently and to finance the migration. Best is &lt;br&gt; schools, as there is little or no data to migrate. &lt;br&gt; Advocate to the guy next to you for practice and support.

  Probably one of the most important features is teh speed of scanning-- &lt;br&gt; log at the time per line of the scanners. for example, I originally &lt;br&gt; bought and Epson 1600 and found it horribly slow, but the cheaper 1200 &lt;br&gt; was much faster-- it has worked well for the past 6 years. &lt;br&gt; Anyway, pay attention to speed or you will be cursing the scanner.
