  Okay...once again, I feel the need to defend my example. I had no &lt;br&gt; idea so many panties would get twisted here. This was an &lt;br&gt; example...ONE! Not the be all, end all phone number input field.   But humans aren&#39;t telephones, and the formats are meant to enhance &lt;br&gt; readability. There are standardized formats - in the U.S., for &lt;br&gt; instance, they can include hyphens, dashes and/or periods. &lt;br&gt; But neither of those are used by U.S. and Canadian people, for instance. &lt;br&gt; And other countries have much different formats.

  I think, when your expected incoming data is Boolean then you should &lt;br&gt; use strict comparison. &lt;br&gt; Otherwise it is not required.
