Dan,
I have a very advanced tool that does FAR more than compare. But one
of it's greatest strengths is it's compare features. The editor, full
screen and fully function key enabled, can compare up to 6 records at
a time, displaying two at a time side by side with only lines that
differ being highlighted. It has the ability to edit in compared mode
or uncompared mode. and has a full robust set of editing functions
that will thrill you. Lines can be moved between windows using the
mouse. In the case of highly different programs, reconciled
differences can be "turned off" in the display windows. In addition
there are many features that make life veru easy. One that is most
often mentioned to me is that the mouse click interface interprets
clicks as requests for action.
For example:
Click on a GOSUB or GOTO and go directly to the paragrah named, even
if it is in an include.
Click on a paragraph name and be given a list of all the places that
come to that paragraph.
Right click on an file operation and list out the contents of the file
in an interactive window, same for the file dictionary
Left click on any file operation and go to the open associated with
that file
Click on a Loop/Repeat to go to the associated Repeat/Loop
Search the program for all exact or partial matches of a string,
whether in the main line program, an include, or a called program, and
view them in an interactive window which allows you to go to whatever
line in the display by clicking on it, again regardleess of whether in
the main line program, an include, or a called program.
Click on a call statement, Perform, or Execute statement and
immediately open up the named program in a new edit window.
Follow links through programs using the mouse to an infinite number of
sublevels.
There is much much more.
The tool is the mvToolbox. It is not expensive, but only $250/seat.
In all the toolbox has approximately 800 specialized tools all in a
single integrated package. The only problem I have had with the
product is that it is SOOO rich in features that some people are just
too intimidated by it. If you like to learn things, especially things
that will make your job a whole lot easier, you qualify as an
mvToolbox user. If you are lazy, really lazy, this product will make
life a whole lot easier, once you get used to it. I have
functionality in the mvToolbox that is not found anywhere else.
I could arrange a demo across the web for you and give you an overview
of the greatest collection of tools the Pick community has ever seen.
If you are interested and would like to take a look, give me a call at
