Subject: Westbury Community Hospital Wiltshire
You can learn more about the history of our hospital at Wiki.
The hospital which also houses all the Community services is now under
even more threat as the announced closure on Aug 31st (with NO
consultation) has prompted many staff to look for jobs elswhere and
many of our experienced clinical and ancilliary staff have been
successful in finding aternative employment. Of course they really had
no option as have mortgages and other real commitments and we all wish
them well in new posts. The PCT/SHA, I feel hoped that this would
happen and will now close the beds much earlier than planned saying
that it is not clinically safe to keep them open - once they are closed
we will have great difficulty re opening them.
There is little doubt that staff have been intimidated with veiled
threats from managers to staff who have been visibly seen to protest re
the closure but sadly staff are too frightened to whistle blow and have
little support from managers who's jobs are also under threat. There
has been little compassion shown by the PCT senior management who we
all realise are under extreme pressure themselves but there are ways of
giving bad news and supporting stressed and overworked staff.
We continue to fight and the whole community turn out to regular
events to maintain a high profile for our camapign - the local press
and our MP are very vocal and the LOF continue to support the health
care needs of the town and surrounding villages.
As more news is announced I will update you all - it would be good to
hear from you so that we can shaer how to move forward.
