Yes. I'm using rake to deploy wordpress-installations to different
servers, do backups, transfer the database from a test deployment to
a production deployment and other tedious stuff. Depending on the
hosting-provider different protocols are available.

Ideally I'd like to be able to do something like:

Is there anyway of specifying alternate prerequisites for a task, ie at
least one of the prerequisites must be run before the task itself is
run.

The way I'm doing it now is by using a "proxy task" that picks one of
the prerequisite tasks based on a global settings variable.

I don't think it matters too much where you put it. Just add it
somewhere that makes sense.
Then to have it run automatically after deploy you just add an after
call somewhere in the body of your recipe file. So if you were to name
it :restart_services and put it in the :remote namespace, you could do

Mongrel should be installed in the server.

Another thing the command is mongrel_rails and you're trying to use
mongrel.
If don't works check where's the command (which mongrel_rails) and add
the path to PATH or include it in run command.

Yes, please try Webistrano from master, it includes the Net::SSH fix
that will hopefully fix your problem.

Damn, Burg - update your Capistrano 2.5.10 released last week; (mostly this
will upgrade your Net::SSH client, there was a bug with threading that they
fixed at 2.0.14, but AFAIK it hasn't manifested with so few hosts before.

it - but I know I had problems last time I tried.

Were the ruby & capistrano versions you listed, from the Webistrano server
(not your workstation)

I just looked at the 'TOP' of the webistrano server and found this -

Thanks for the info, nothing suspicious there apart from deploying to
/usr/local which is odd.

But according to your last email you can deploy these hosts individually?

It is pretty clear to me that Webistrano / Capistrano is stuck in the
'git fetch' stage probably because of some permissions issues. However
it is not outputing it and I cannot seem to find any proper debug
method for what's going on behind the NetSSH

I'm trying to set up Webistrano + Capistrano to deploy to multiple
servers:
When trying to deploy to each server separately, everything works
great. However when I select multiple hosts to deploy it just gets
stuck in the update_code stage (if I run 'restart' for example on
multiple hosts - it works just fine).

I would like to deploy more than one project on a server. For example,
the project A is running on foo.bar.com and I need foo.bar.com:1234
running other project (B). Can I deploy something like that using
capistrano? How the deploy.rb must be configured?

I was reading the code and you can do it easily adding it to your deploy.rb:

default_environment["PATH"] =
"your_paths_separated_with_two _points:another_path:another_o ne"

Default environment overwrite PATH variable. I tested it with a simple task.

Another option is add your directory to the PATH without overwriting it:

Spike, see this page - though I don't condone running software in a faulty
environment (you should make it smart enough to handle a user being there;
there are a couple of ways to approach this - doing it with Ruby (as per

Encapsulate your user add routine in some logic on the remote system
( I would use bash ) and capture the result. Your bash script would
Echo "success" or "failed" but always exit 0 thereby preventing your

Capistrano connects using SSH protocol. You're saying that your host is
"http://....", it's an url not a host. You should put hostname:

task :search_libs, :hosts => "localhost" do

end

(I modified it on the fly, so don't test ) :)

A bit late, but I want to said that I agree with Lee.

I was investigating and asking to experienced users(I'm not an expert
git user) about a clean method to do it, and none give me a simple
solution because as said Lee it isn't supported by Git community.
