Ground Rules
Please bear the following in mind when posting, all this information could be critical!
- Code longer than three lines via Gist or Pastie please.
- Your Ruby version, try
`ruby --version` in your terminal - Your Capistrano version, try `
cap --version` in your terminal - Your deploy.rb & Capfile (where appropriate, most notably so we know what SCM you are using)
- Some clue what you are doing “Deploying 35 hosts from a Snow Leopard workstation to a mixed CentOS and Ubuntu cluster”
Help is a privilege, not a right; we who work on Capistrano do
so because there is something in it for us, most likely we use it day
to day, and its important to us that it works, for us - secondary is
that it works for everyone else.
Yes, point two makes us sound like we’re bad people - but we
don’t all use open source software in the same way, and as such –
there’s a good chance we don’t deploy the same way you do.
With the above said, we welcome and embrace people with diverse deploys, we love Capistrano as much as you do, and we want to see it reach its potential; after all - who wants to deploy code, we want to
drink beer,
hang out with friends and
watch movies -
just like you do!
The Capistrano mailing list is a place for users and developers
alike to come together and answer questions. Whether you're new to
Capistrano and are trying to figure things out, or are an "old hand"
and have run into an odd edge case, please feel free to ask your
questions and share your answers. Likewise, if you're a developer
wanting to extend or embed Capistrano, this list is the place to pose
your questions.
NOTE: If you're new to the list, your first post will be moderated!
Please be patient; depending on when you post it, it may take anywhere
from 15 minutes to several hours for it to be moderated; a few of us get the notices, and someone will get to it as soon as they can; this is a spam
counter-measure; once your first post is accepted, subsequent posts by
you will be automatically posted without moderation. Thanks for
understanding.
