Silly question: Lets assume I go into Argos, buy a product and pay for it. But when they hand me out the stuff i notice that for some reason I do not wanna proceed with the purchace: Do they refund the money when I wanna give it back?
I know that when I order it online I have the right to return the product, but I wonder what are the rules when buying the stuff in the shop?

You have no legal right to return things bought in a shop just because you've changed your mind. Many shops, though, do permit returns up to a certain period. Argos is one that does.

There's a slightly different situation at Argos, from that in any ordinary store. At Argos, you're expected to pay for the goods sight unseen (a 1"x1" catalogue picture hardly counts!). If you then don't like the look of the item when it's delivered to your collection point, or maybe the box is damaged, there shouldn't be a problem with rejecting the goods.
My experience has been that Argos gives you no problems at all refunding at point of sale, particularly since the goods haven't left the store, or even the collection point desk. From hazy memory, I _think_ they can refund a card transaction at the collection point, although a cash sale has to be refunded at the sales desk.

If anything they're a bit too good at it, the phrase "Argos hire shop" is well known in certain sectors of the community.

If you go to the till to order something you can ask to see it before purchase. That way the item is delivered to the collection point for inspection and then the customer can pay for it (back at the tills).
Or at least I've seen people do that in the Cambridge store.

That's true; you can do that. I usually don't, just for time reasons (and the fact that I think I've only rejected at point of sale in Argos once, maybe twice, so it's not worth the faff unless I'm unsure of the item anyway).
