Here is a alternative option for squaring off the roof!

For an example of a squared roof, go here, zoom in and select "birds eye" view. They have extended out the back a bit as well.

I hope I do not offend anyone on here, but to be honest that flat roof extension out of the garage roof looks hideous!  Shocked  Not something I would consider as an option!

Interested to see the rear extension on the live maps link.  It looks like they have created a flat roof section at the top of the house in the centre to maintain the ridge height.

It seems a lot of effort - on the side at least - just to add three or four feet to the small bedrooms, one of which would be very long and thin. I did have a go once at sketching an extension which would be in keeping with the sloping roof, and came up with this. It perhaps scores more highly on the looks than the practicality, but I liked it!

I've just been sent this, which is quite interesting. It's a 2008 planning permission application for a Victoria in Winchester. It's an extension "squaring off" the small bedrooms, front to back.

I like the design of that scheme, it blends quite nicely into the house.  It would appear to give only limited additional space compared to the outlay involved to get the roof removed and rebuilt. In this day and age of static or falling house prices, I am not sure that this sort of extension would add up finnacially.  However, it would give two nice sized and full height rooms upstairs...

Bryant has an updated version of the Victoria called the Viscount. Basically its a victoria but with the roof squared off. Our friends actually bought one from new about 4 years ago now. It was great fun comparing with ours. The landing upstairs is slightly different as it goes into a sort of u shape either side of the aring cupboard and then rooms 3 and 4 start, the little window shown on the pic upstairs is on the landing too.  The two smaller bedrooms also have built in wardrobes, downstairs is basically the same though.
