Extension (2)

Originally posted by nix on the original Bryant Victoria Homeowners Forum, October 2007

We have been considering mashing dining room & kitchen together for a while now and I constantly look out for ideas via rightmove etc.  Found this and thought that this was completely different!  Have no idea of floor plan but they have obviously extended the upstairs considerably along with converting downstairs kitchen dining room area.

You can see that they have moved the garage forward which has allowed them to have a dining room in the old garage and access to the new garage from the hallway.  They also have a fifth bedroom.

Bed 5 is at the side between bed 3 & 4 - bed 4 is now the new bed 2. I'm intrigued to what the entrance is now like - great to have a door into the garage. How about access to bed 5? - it must be behind the airing cupboard so they must have stolen space from bed 3 to get to it.

Isn't it odd that the owners decided to almost perfectly recreate the original porch when moving it forward? I wonder if they were forced to, in order to make the house remain in keeping with its neighbours?

It is normal practice for an extension to be set back slightly from the oringinal house, to ensure that the original structure retains some identity.  I would be a little concerned with this design as it appears to creates a valley in the centre of the roof, which may give maintenance issues...
