Volunteering / Picking up the Pace a bit

Adam McGreggor <li...@amyl.org.uk>

From the wiki page, it appears I was the second person/first
non-organizer-type to volunteer. And no-one else has kicked things off,
that I've seen.

So, perhaps I can: I assume everyone who's volunteered is on this list;
i'm not one for cross-posting really.

Firstly, I guess a lot depends on the venue: I've not been to GoogleUK,
so don't know what it's like: perhaps a reccy might be useful, for us to
plan something/plot/scheme/design layout, yes? (most mornings are bad
for me, afternoons/evenings do-able, although i do have some evening
meetings on Wednesdays and Thursdays).

So, from the wiki...

>>>   Sponsors

Some of the things we need, and hope various organisations can
   provide:
   • a location - requirements detailed above
So this is sorted now, yes

   • food - breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks for the two days
Well, it's just the one day now, isn't it?

   • drink - cold, hot, soft, hard - wine for \"geek dinners\" I know
this isn't really a dinner, but I'd be happy to make contact and see
if they could do anything for us. JC
There's something on the Facebook event about this, istr.

   • wifi - hopefully the location will be able to provide this too.
Do we know about this: should probably print out (in a LARGE type-face)
any keys needed, lots of times over. Perhaps lots of
power-strips/muulti-pug extension leads, too?

   • goodies - as is customary at barcamps, at least T-shirts for all
     the attendees.
Something our hosts could provide? Or do we need to look to other folks?

   • entertainment - maybe some sort of social event on the Saturday
     evening
Local to the event/West End/Vauxhall/Somewhere else? It's been a while
since I worked Victoria way, so haven't really been in the pubs 'round
there for a while.

>>>   To do list

 Tech
   Wifi
   Projector, White Boards
Presumably old-fashioned whte-boards, not this ultra-hip Interactive
ones?

 Photo
   Video
   Audio
Is the plan to webcast live, or upload stuff later? : from memory, most
BarCamps passim have been live.

 Non-tech
   Breakfast
   Lunch
   Coffee/Tea
Thoughts on a menu? Is this being provided by our hosts, or something we
need to think about doing ourselves/talking nicely to Pret/someone else
(for lunch): Might it be an idea (if providing ourselves) to talk to the
Sainsbury's/$supermarket on Victoria Street, about supplies: see if they
can order extra stuff in?

With coffee/tea, we should also remember about water (still and
sparkling), and fruit-juices, yes?

We should probably add in
Paper Flip-Charts and Magic Markers/Whiteboard Pens in LOTS OF COLO[U]RS.
often very much needed for the quickness.

   Tables and chairs

Suggest this be done ~after~ a reccy, and preferably, the
afternoon/evening before.

Name badges - Emma M and Stimulation Ltd will supply name badges and
plastic wallets (with person to dish out and collect)

We could probably also do with some SIGNAGE : from the tube station and
outside the venue: and check on the signage regularly as Westminster
City Council are rather efficient at removing them!

Thoughts,
