  I am now getting around five spam emails a day into the moderators &lt;br&gt; mail box. &lt;br&gt; &lt;p&gt;To help stop this I have now closed automatic list membership and new &lt;br&gt; members need to apply to a moderator before they can join. &lt;br&gt; &lt;p&gt;I hope that this stops the flood of spam emails that I have to deal &lt;br&gt; with every day and also opens the list up to faster communication.

  I was just wondering if anyone had attempted to install Wordpress&#39;s &lt;br&gt; VideoPress on EC2... It requires a server for encoding as well as a &lt;br&gt; file server.. and I&#39;m thinking it would be great to combine this &lt;br&gt; platform with CloudFront... anyone looked into this at all? &lt;br&gt; &lt;p&gt;-m

  So I have been investigating how to do this with security groups and &lt;br&gt; rightscale... can anyone give me a rundown? I am not getting it so &lt;br&gt; far.. basically I want a group for my php/apache servers, and a group &lt;br&gt; for mysql server, granting access for those php servers to get at &lt;br&gt; master.mydomain.com instead of the internal IP address...

  Matt, &lt;br&gt; Yes, this is sort of what I was thinking... so essentially the setup &lt;br&gt; would be... &lt;br&gt; &lt;p&gt;1) Assign Elastic IP for MySQL node &lt;br&gt; 2) Create DNS entry for it, such as master.mydomain.com or whatever &lt;br&gt; ( I do this via godaddy ) &lt;br&gt; 3) set up a security group to allow my php nodes to access the default &lt;br&gt; mysql port

  Hi, &lt;br&gt; As I mentioned in an earlier post, I have a two node setup currently. &lt;br&gt; Node A is a Apache PHP box that contains a few wordpress websites, and &lt;br&gt; Node B is the MySQL box containing DBs for these sites. &lt;br&gt; &lt;p&gt;Both nodes have a EBS volume attached and all user-data, database &lt;br&gt; files and web application files reside on EBS.

  Hi Micah, &lt;br&gt; &lt;p&gt;Your best bet here is to use Amazon&#39;s elastic IP service to assign an &lt;br&gt; IP to your MySQL server, and map that to a domain, just as you &lt;br&gt; suggested. You can then point your PHP nodes to that subdomain, which &lt;br&gt; will resolve to the elastic IP, which you can point at the MySQL node &lt;br&gt; (or a cache, or a load balancer, or whatever). Elastic IPs are free

I will definitely look into security groups. &lt;br&gt; For now, I did some testing and if I grant access to a user for &amp;quot;Any &lt;br&gt; Host&amp;quot; this sort of solves my problem. Security seems to be set to not &lt;br&gt; allow connections from external hosts ( outside my subnet ) and this &lt;br&gt; includes other EC2 instances on other account.

  Hi Micah, &lt;br&gt; &lt;p&gt;My advice would be to use the EC2 security rules to control access to &lt;br&gt; the MySQL server, rather than granting permissions on a host by host &lt;br&gt; basis. &lt;br&gt; &lt;p&gt;As you probably know, by default, EC2 doesn&#39;t allow any incoming &lt;br&gt; connections, but you can manage which nodes can access which other &lt;br&gt; nodes using the access permissions in a security group.
