7. This week's top 50:
After last week's dramatically active chart, things quieten down
a bit this week. We saw Vanessa Amorosi debut at number one with
"This Is Who I Am", becoming her first ever number one single
after she reached the top 10 several times over the last 10 years.
However, Vanessa's debut at the top isn't some flash in the
pan as it holds solidly at the top for a second week in a row.
Although competition is never far away, and the Black Eyed Peas
are ready to score three number ones in a row as "Meet Me Halfway"
returns to number 2 this week.
Miley Cyrus is back in the top 10 this week as "Party In The USA"
rebounds to number 9 - the peak it reached six weeks ago. That
song's rebound co-incides with the release of her "The Time Of Our
Lives" album which debuts at number 11 on this week's albums chart.
Miley pushes Cobra Starship's "Good Girls Go Bad" out of the
top 10 this week as that single slips from number 10 to 12.
So what happened to last week's 5 big hits? We saw Vanessa
retain the top spot with "This Is Who I Am", however there's a
bit of a shock with last week's second highest new entry. Robbie
Williams' "Bodies" suffers a massive drop in sales as the single
tumbles from number 4 to 10. Leona Lewis also suffers a drop
with "Happy" debuting at number 44 last week but dropping right
out of the top 50 this week. A little better news for Glee Cast
as their "Halo / Walking On Sunshine" mash-up moves up from its
number 49 debut to number 40. And finally Eva Simons' "Silly
Boy" moves up 5 places from number 50 to 45 this week.
A total of 7 brand new hits into the top 50 but none of the
high flier action like with last week's two debuts right into
the top 5. None of this week's 7 new hits are even able to crack
the top 20.
23. ALL OF THE DREAMERS - Powderfinger
CD single: (not released yet)
Digital track: #29
Music video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=DhKAhyP8qKI
Song lyrics: www.tinyurl.com/yht3o4q
Artist website: www.powderfinger.com
Brisbane rock band Powderfinger were formed in 1989 and have
enjoyed a string of huge multi-platinum selling albums
including "Odyssey Number Five" which sold an incredible
8-times platinum in 2000 and gave them their highest charting
hit single ever, the number 4 track "My Happiness". The
group's 7th studio album is titled "Golden Rule" and is
released in mid-November. First single off the album is "All
Of The Dreamers" which debuts at number 23 this week.
28. TIK TOK - Kesha
CD single: (not released yet)
Digital track: #28
Music video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXMu14YlfXs
Song lyrics: www.tinyurl.com/ykzkfag
Artist website: www.keshasparty.com
Kesha Sebert is a 22 year-old American singer and songwriter.
She enjoyed international fame by appearing on Flo Rida's
huge hit "Right Round" which spent 7 weeks at number one.
The first single from Kesha's upcoming debut album is "Tik Tok"
which debuts at number 28 this week. This single has already
gone to number one in New Zealand, top 10 in Canada and is
sitting just outside of the top 20 in the US.
37. MEET ME ON THE EQUINOX - Death Cab For Cutie
CD single: (not released yet)
Digital track: #32
Music video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=eK0uCfHZZH4
Song lyrics: www.tinyurl.com/ygpc6cs
Artist website: www.deathcabforcutie.com
American 4-piece indie rock band Death Cab For Cutie formed
in 1997 however up until 2008, they only enjoyed only minor
success in the US and UK. In 2008, they released their 6th
studio album "Narrow Stairs" which went all the way to number
one on the US albums chart and number 6 in Australia. However
this week marks the first time Death Cab For Cutie has enjoyed
a top 50 hit single in Australia. "Meet me On The Equinox"
debuts at number 37 this week and is the group's contribution
to the movie soundtrack of "New Moon" which is the sequel to
last year's "Twlight". The movie soundtrack also includes
tracks by The Killers and Muse, while the Australian release of
that soundtrack includes the track "Thunderclap" by Eskimo Joe.
42. I DON'T BELIEVE YOU - Pink
CD single: (released 23rd October)
Digital track: #39
Music video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=5aCwYqeEspo
Song lyrics: www.tinyurl.com/yhqg9he
Artist website: www.pinkspage.com
This week Pink's 9-times platinum selling "Funhouse" album
delivers its 6th hit single. There was the chart-topping
"So What", the top 10 smashes "Sober", "Bad Influence"
and "Funhouse", plus the number 11 track "Please Don't Leave
Me". Now the latest single from that album is "I Don't
Believe You" which debuts at number 42 and comes two months
after Pink concluded the 3-month and 58 show leg of her
"Funhouse" tour in Australia. Interestingly enough, Europe
got only a few more concerts out of Pink for this tour - 86 in
total - despite Australia's population being just 3% of that of
Europe. And across North America she performed 12 shows,
much less than the 17 shows she performed in Melbourne alone!
43. IT'S MY LIFE / CONFESSIONS PART II - Glee Cast
CD single: (not released yet)
Digital track: (not in top 40)
Song lyrics: www.tinyurl.com/ylcxmcx
Artist website: www.fox.com/glee/
Yet another recording by the Glee Cast makes the top 50.
Their fourth charting song is a mash-up of Bon Jovi's "It's My
Life" and Usher's "Confessions Part II", and it debuts at
number 43 this week.
48. WHO SAYS - John Mayer
CD single: (not released yet)
Digital track: (not in top 40)
Music video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZwVjys2bQI
Song lyrics: www.tinyurl.com/yerustv
Artist website: www.johnmayer.com
32 year-old American singer and song-writer John Mayer
will shortly release his fourth studio album which is titled
"Battle Studies". First single off the album is "Who Says"
which debuts at number 48 this week. John has enjoyed
good album sales in the past with his 2002 release "Room For
Squares" being his most successful with double platinum sales.
From that album came his highest charting single, "Your Body
Is A Wonderland", which peaked at number 23 in early 2003.
50. DON'T LET ME DOWN - Eskimo Joe
CD single: (not released yet)
Digital track: (not in top 40)
Music video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=FFwlbbYxQOY
Song lyrics: www.tinyurl.com/yhuemd3
Artist website: www.eskimojoe.net
Final new entry of the week goes to Perth band Eskimo Joe.
The group has enjoyed good album sales this decade, peaking
with the 4-times platinum achievement of "Black Fingernails,
Red Wine" in 2006. That huge album gave them a string
of hits including their only top 10 single to date, that
being the title track. "Inshalla" was the 4th studio album
for the group which was released earlier this year and it
debuted at number one. Currently a gold seller, it spawned
the hit "Foreign Land" which peaked at number 13, however the
second single "Losing Friends Over Love" failed to make
the top 50. The album's third single is "Don't Let Me
Down" which debuts at number 50 and was performed by the
group a few weeks ago on the "Hey Hey It's Saturday"
reunion show on TV. The elaborate music video for "Don't
Let Me Down" was filmed at a huge mansion in Brisbane
and features a group of rich older ladies partying and
flirting with the band members.
