Re: Travel and Road Works in Austria

stevepatria...@hotmail.com

The Vienna works are now complete and the bridge is flowing again, but
the Tauern has seen record jams this year - up to 40Km and 8 hours
waiting time. Anyone attempting a holiday in Carinthia needs to be
aware it is virtually inacessible from the North! However, it is worth
remembering that the routes from Slovenia are now excellent.

The desperate situation with flights continues. Austrian Airlines are
still advertising the London City - Vienna route but if you try to
make a reservation they will tell you it closes at the end of August.

This leaves only one major airline scheduled air route between the
Austrian capital and the UK and that is into Heathrow. For those who
want to risk Terminal 5 BA also operate the same route.

Bratislava is much better served and it might even be worth
considering flying to Budapest.

But if any society members work for an airline or a Tourist Board can
they just remind the airlines of the existence of Vienna!
