Maybe I can encourage a little life in this forum by injecting a note
of controversy?

Does anyone know the current Austrian National Anthem?

I know few Austrians who do!

In UK many think it is The Blue Danube (or even God Help Us -
Eidelweiss!)

In this Haydn year is it not time to restore the old anthem?

As an Ango Austrian Society we should perhaps take note of just how
hard it is actually to travel between the UK and Austria. Outside
London, Austria becomes one of the remotest countries in Europe!

It is curious that Austria - UK routes are so poorly served,
especially from outside the London area. However I am happy to go and make a booking for you.

Did you also consider a student guide to the Kunsthistorisches Mseum? I did this for school groups and it was very accessible even to those who only wanted to get to the prater.

Thanks for this. I found another solution. Move to Austria.

Steve> Date: Fri, 5 Dec 2008 08:33:43 -0800> Subject: Austrian TV and Radio on the Internet> From: pe...@farne.me.uk> To: anglo-austrian-society@googleg roups.com> > > Peter Gieler wrote recently in “Felix Austria” that he is often asked> how to receive Austrian TV and radio programmes in the UK. He went on> to describe the possibilities for doing this via satellite> broadcasts.> > It is worth knowing that Austrian TV and radio broadcasts are also> available via the internet. To watch the TV programmes you will need> a broadband connection to the net.> > The TV output which is available consists of “Zeit im Bild”, “Heute in> Österreich” and regional news broadcasts. These are provided “on> demand” for a few days after the live transmission has gone out in> Austria. This is similar in nature to the service which the BBC> offers through its iPlayer.> > Many Austrian radio stations can be heard “live” on the internet.> This means that you are listening to their programmes at (almost) the> same time as they are being broadcast in Austria. The ÖRF stations> available include Ö1, Ö3, FM4 and all 9 regional services. There are> also a number of non-ÖRF stations.> > To watch Austrian TV on the internet, visit the ÖRF web page at> [link]. You can then start the programmes by> clicking on the links on the right-hand side of the page. The links> say things like “Stream” or “Wien heute”.> > To listen to Austrian radio on the internet, visit the ÖRF web page at> [link]. You can then start the radio stations by> clicking on the links at the right-hand side of the page. The links> all say “live”.> > Details of non-ÖRF TV and radio stations can be found at various> websites such as :> > [link]> > [link] and [link]> > [link]> > ______________________________ ______________________________ _____

The Vienna works are now complete and the bridge is flowing again, but
the Tauern has seen record jams this year - up to 40Km and 8 hours
waiting time. Anyone attempting a holiday in Carinthia needs to be
aware it is virtually inacessible from the North! However, it is worth
remembering that the routes from Slovenia are now excellent.

We should perhaps warn members and friends who do not know, that late
July and August are often major times for roadworks in Austria. This
year, Vienna is especially hard hit with synchronised road-works, over
the bridges.
