How to store meter values for electricity ? ( and is this what AMEE should be used for ? )

Hello, I researching a carbon accounting project which would be based solely on energy usage figures, e.g meter readings . In the basic form each user will input the readings on his gas/elec/oil meter on the monday of each week. 	Missing Profiles don't return 404 ?
	Just a quick note/question really, I am working on interacting with AMEE via the xml api and I got a bit frustrated because when I request a profile which doesn't exist the server returns the whole collection of profiles rather than a 404 error as I would have expected.
