I cant' have my QQ BOX work :( QQ BOX = DVB-B Digital Satellite USB TV Tuner Box PC (1)
- since 1997, I have a working satellite analog receiver system tuned to ASTRA 19.2E
- I plugged my QQ BOX as stated and installed the driver and the provided software BLAZEDTV successfully.
- I just unplugged my old working receiver and replug the connector in the QQ BOX
Running a scan on BLADEDTV shows two progressbar : one named 'stength' shows 87% sounds good one named 'quatilty' shows 4% not good at all :)
Ands of course the BLAZEDTV scan finds nothing
Questions : - my old LNB (~1997) may not be an universal one ???? and my QQ BOX can' 'tune' or feed it - the QQ BOX does not work with VISTA ???? Yet it should ! - My desktop is an Intel duo core 1800 - the poor QQ BOX is dead - ?????

This box is presumably new to you and has not been previously working for you ? Does the LNB supply have to be switched on in the setup ? Are all your USB ports USB2 ? (just in case you have e.g. an add-on USB card). Does your old receiver still work on the same LNB ?

I am trying to switch from working analog (old sat receiver + TV) to digital (Digital Satellite Box > USB > Computer > Monitor).
Do you mean that LNB for analog satellite TV is not suitable for Digotal TV ???? Or do you think, as I do, that the first thing to change is the LNB because of lack of compatibility with my new QQ BOX ? First, I would like to know if that QQ BOX is OK before to change everything and retuning LNB + Dish on a ladder ... I am much older now :)

Yes, it's brand new and never worked ... yet
> Does the LNB supply have to be switched on in the setup ?
I don't know ? LNB is powered by the Box. Up to now, I guessed it was automatically done by the QQ Box. But it is a good question because the box has two coaxial connectors 'LNB in' and 'Loop Out', so it may be usefull to decide which will power the LNB ... (BTW, I did not figure out very well what that 'Loop out' is, I guess it's a buffered LNB output ... ?? CC decoupled ??)

That's what the main board doc states Asrock Wolfsdale 1333-D667 R2.0 4 USB2
> Does your old receiver still work on the same LNB ?
Yes.
I'll check that possible LNB supply switch configuration ? Not easy doc is very thin :)

That goes to the dish.
>and 'Loop Out'
That lets another receiver use the same LNB (but not to fully control it while the first receiver is switched on), I suspect originally for feeding distribution systems but it also allows an analogue receiver to be used for the few remaining analogue channels on a modern set-up. If the receivers are used simultaneously then it would be usual for the second one to have the LNB supply switched off.

The main catch in that department to watch out for is to install a "spare" USB card and not notice it is an old one that predates USB2.

"Rob" has already made the relevant comment re changing the LNB (I missed the combination of "old" and "analogue"). If it is more than a few years old then there is a good chance it won't cover the whole of the current frequency range in use, if it is _very_ old then IIRC the received frequency band might additionally be shifted. In any case it should modestly improve the signal.

I dunno what sat you are on, but you need to set the right 'symbolrate', likely 22000 or 27500. That effect you describe also happens when you enter the wrong symbolrate (or scan the wrong satellite, usually in those menus selecting Astra or Hotbird will set 22000 or 27500 for a scan, but not always). Check it anyways before replacing any hardware. Also check the other LNB settings (diseqc etc).

Thanks ! That's what I guessed ... see how smart I am :). I too guess that my new analog box is smart enough to ignore DC on coaxial core ??? I won't try :)

I did not get you at first read. No there are no extra USB card, all the USB ports deliver at least 5 Megabytes/s copying large files on USB SD flash memory.

I just bought one on Ebay (1) (anyway I'll need a second one)

My old satellite TV receiver - the one I use up to now - is an analog only one, I bought it in ?~1997~? the LNB was bought at the same date : 1997.

I tried that for a selected satellite and channel but with no conviction :), I'll try again
I am mainly interested by CNBC on ASTRA 19.2
Transponder 26 Frequency 11.59700 GHz Polarization V Mode {DVB-S MPEG-2} SR 22000 FEC 5/6 PCRPID 307 VPID 307 Time Teletext yes
Euhhhhhhhhhh ! I see DVB-S MPEG-2 and my stuff is DVB-B could it be the reason doctor :) !

I tried 22000 with no conviction but not diseqc or ...

When you have bought an LNB in the analog era, and it was specific for your analog receiver, it is not suitable for digital.
This is because that old LNB has only 1 frequency band. The newer LNBs have two frequency bands that can be switched by the receiver.
When you are only receiving the low band, you miss many of the digital channels, especially on Astra.
So you need to check what type of LNB you have and if it has one or two frequency bands. Or, considering that it is very old, you can just buy a new LNB for maybe 10 euro.

Frequency : 10.7 - 12.75 GHz Local Oscillator : 9.75 GHz - 10.6 GHz implying Mixer Outpout = FI 950 MHz to 2150 MHz in two 'overlapping' bands Noise 0.9 dB typical, 1.1 dB max

Yes, 8.2 Euro (noise 0.1 dB now) !
I'll post a message here when it will work ... It will take a week or two depending on weather, wind, freetime, ...

It seems to me, that if you HAVE a lot of signal strength, but bad quality, that means your LNB is OK!

That's not always certain; the signal level on my Technomate can be tickling 80% when the dish is pointing at empty space.

Ok that LNB already has the two bands and the correct LO frequencies. So it probably is not the cause of your problem.
But fitting a newer lower-noise LNB never hurts.
There must be some other problem, though. I have no idea what it may be.

Well, possible, my experience is different, not tuned no signal... I have the impression he either selected the wrong sat in the software, say Hotbird and scans with 27500, while needing Astra and 22000 symbol rate, or is the sat for his analog program even the same as the one for his now wanted digital? Is he pointing at the right sat? But I think he just selected the wrong sat or some other parameter for scanning in the software.

Again, check your symbolrate (must be a menu option somewhere), also check if you selected the right satellite in the scanning menu if it has one, and all other parameters.
