Yeah, something went wrong with the copy/paste - that sometimes happens
when Pan is open. The second one should be
for /f "tokens=*" %%A in ('echo %* ^| awk "{$1=\"\";print $0}"' do set
s=%%A
I had to retype that - copy/paste isn't working at all today - I'll have
to reboot.

 You got that right!
I have a *huge* gawk program consisting of an HTML file to process that
has embeded information that is partially extracted by the main script and
the entire line passed to the secondary script named in that data. The
result is a new HTML file consisting of a list of web comics and

Good examples there Ted, appreciate your input.
As you can see below, the %TAG% variable was
what I needed to pass to (g)awk. And once inside
the awk program file, things (for me at least)
get so much easier...
Now that I have the awk program ported to Windows,
I can parse my data (snippets, phone numbers, etc...)

As one of the few people actually mixing batch files and awk, I can offer
some advice.
Do all the text processing that you can in awk.
Use gawk as your awk interpreter.
Try to arrange the logic so that one or more awk scripts create the batch
file, rather than the batch file creating the awk script.

Yes. But not in whole. I just think that such example is "matrioshka".
What is profit of creation of one script from another to execute it? Howdy Frank. Good idea. The script in question
is a unique beast... a cmd script that creates
an awk program file, sorta tough to describe...
Correct. Is there an easy to determine the number
of elements in ARGV? (err... not sure what the
proper nomenclature is with respect to cmd scripting).
Saw some nice solutions in Prof. Timo Salmi's FAQs, but
