Newbie Q: Advice on Karaoke software...?

Mr. INTJ <mr.i...@gmail.com>

I'd like to set up my wife's computer so she can sing (and possibly
record) karaoke. This is just for light use at home, so I haven't been
seriously considering laying out for one of these pre-packaged all-in-
one solutions.

I spent some time researching this (rhymes with 'Noogle') a few weeks
back, but instead of closing in a few candidates, I just got more
confused. Results seemed to lead in all directions, and I got the
impression I was missing something.

I'm comfortable setting up the microphone and software, but I could
really use some recommendations on software to choose, popular content
formats, etc. Cheap is good. Free is really good (but not Warez, pls).

One other thing -

My wife is Chinese, but her Windows XP OS is English. One of the
Karaoke applications I previously looked into supposedly only ran on a
Chinese language version of Windows (or maybe the entire UI was in
Chinese Traditional - I forget now).

Anyway, that's going to make things pretty tough for me when it comes
time to show her how to use the application. Chinese computer terms
aren't very meaningful to her, and I can't read any of it, so I end up
saying things like "OK, well, on this menu, isn't there *something*
that says 'go' or 'play' or anything like that? No? Are you sure?
Hmmm."

Aaargh..

Thanks in advance for any advice or recommendations.
