Submit ONLY to QUALITY directories; never give a recipriocal link (ignore
those that ask)

Build a better site; article farms help article farmers - you'll get
virtually zero benefit, and lose the benfit the article could have if it
appeared ONLY on your site.

Very sound advice; being active in a related forum is the best way to build
a repitation and get free links; forum spamming is EXACTLY the opposite.

Link exchanges with related QUALITY sites, CAN work - bit link exchanges
these days are VERY risky, and almost never a risk worth taking. Treat ALL
requests for link exchanges as spam - 99.99% will be, and NOT ALL will
appear to be dangerous; expect people to treat your requests with equal
caution. Why shouldn't they?
