Very true. Back in the day I ran a Warner & Swasey turret lathe for about
five years. After the second year or so I could make that machine dance.
Most kids in the US today have never seen one.
I want a Sherline too, but I'm supporting too many hobbies as it is.
Tom

There was some reference on the Sherline website to mfring having been
tranferred from Oz to US at some point. Unusual in that we don't get all
that much in the way of Oz mfred goods in the US. I think car classifications tend to follow the relevant legal
definitions. In general usage, the terma are more loosely
employed.
It also occurs to me that the distinction of "antique" sometimes
depends on the event where they are displayed. Some British
fairs for instance have guidelines for their vetting committees

This is broadly correct, but there are exceptions.
Wrist-watches are deemed to be "vintage" if they are aged 30
years or older -- it's the equivalent of "antique" for other
goods and it makes sense since 99% of wristwatches are much less
than 100 years old.
Cars are another exception: in Britain, any vehicle older than 30

How much would it cost for you to have this shipped? Customs duties? Broker
fees? VAT?
There are going to be some disparities as the $ fluctuates and the prices
don't always get adjusted. Sometime this is in your favor, sometimes the
other way round (though usually the importer "forgets" to lower the prices

 Hi Guys,
Any of you use Sherline ?
I'm thinking of a 4100 or 4400(still tossing up whether to go with a
longer bed) mini lathe.
Tolerance, reliability, value for money, other brand ideas welcome. :)
Btw, how is this ?
On the US official site i could grab a baseline 4100A package for
US$675. That's around 740 Aussie bucks..

Yes but it partly depends on what the aftermarket bits are - if you use
cheap junk or parts that really don't belong, the decline in value is
bigger. Even bigger still if you mutilate the watch in order to fit the
aftermarket part. There is good repair and bad. Getting the watch/clock
functioning again is obviously the goal (I agree w. you that in most cases
