Invicta Diver w/ Swiss Sellita (ETA clone) movement, sapphire crystal.  $180
including US shipping.  This watch usually has a "street price" of $300. You
will not find a comparable watch having these features for less.

"90 day warranty". Or less of a warranty?

True the warranty sucks but the nature of watches (as many other devices) is
that a defect in assembly will be apparent very soon after receipt - if the
watch is running well after 3 months, chances are very good it will be
running well after 3 years unless you cause damage in which case warranty
does not apply anyway. Many credit cards will double the warranty.  $120
(difference between $180 and reg. price of $300 w/ 1 yr warranty) is a lot
to pay for a 9 month warranty extension.

Ime it could take about 3 months before an auto 'settles in'. It hardly
speaks for the manufacturer's confidence in the reliability of their
product. I might have a swell time convincing my CC to make good on a watch
that runs a minute slow per day. Even if so, 6 months wouldn't make me
happy. Would I have to wear that watch and only the watch for 6 months?
Suppose I decide to set it aside for a while? I (and you too must have)
autos which we don't even pick up, no less wear for over a year and more.

Regulation and warranty repair are two different things.

That's amongst the very little which I do know about mechanical watches. I
should have indicated losing time after repeated attempts at regulation, the
regulation itself of course eating up the warranty period. I've owned at
least one watch that started losing time despite regulation and which even
the manufacturer couldn't fix and decided to replace with yet another lousy
watch, the same model (from Schaffhausen). The 3rd one which I now own
doesn't keep a charge and I just don't give a damn any longer since life is
too short). Another time losing watch from a different Swiss outfit was
returned to the store from which it was purchased for a credit towards
another watch. I'm writing about $3000+ watches, which the store verified as
being unacceptable, with no need to go to a credit card for assistance.

Considering the low cost of the item in question if there is any problem
after 90 days, it would be best to throw it out rather than repair it, or
offer it free for the asking right here at alt.horology (as I once did
myself). But better yet would be never buying a *mechanical* watch with a 90
day warranty since it could easily produce a cheap headache (which is still
better than an expensive headache).

I dunno, I bought a watch out of a flea market in China knowing that there
was zero warranty. Paid $30 so that's the most I'm out.  Has been running ok
for several weeks now and if it breaks then so be it - the bracelet alone is
probably worth $10 or more.

Most assuredly so, it's a souvenir of your trip and it will be good as longs
as it lasts. Often when the price is low, so are expectations but I hope you
will be pleasantly surprised. In your place if I found this item even
moderately attractive, I would have done the same.
