What a mess
|
| |
Thank God for a big shovel and huge trash bags. Just got through tearing out the ceiling in the upstairs bedroom I'm remodeling. My father-in-law did this upstairs addition back in the mid 1940's. He put in 1/4 inch drywall with bat insulation between the rafters and a shit load of blown in insulation above that. And he ran... more »

Laziness!
|

Replaced the last couple receptacles upstairs before starting to clean up for the holidays. Found a recep in the master bedroom, right next to the access panel for the bathroom plumbing. Ground was bootlegged to neutral. There's a cold water pipe NINE INCHES away, and I didn't even have to break any plaster to get to it! Sheesh.... more »

Speaking of bathroom exhaust fans
|
| |
I have one in my current house. Having at one point developed surface mold/mildew in my last bathroom, I'm being careful to try to remember to use the fan. Questions - how long should it run? Like, is turning it off when I leave the BR sufficient, or should it run longer? Do any come with timers?... more »

water meter

I'd like to use a "used water meter". These are the type with dial indicator window on top. Does anyone know if I can put a used meter in the line to the house and will it work correctly?

OT: What happens after car is stolen?
|
| |
Mine was stolen 2 days ago. Police report was made. Haven't placed a claim with insurance. I know there's a chance I'll never hear anything. Had one stolen in '78, still got the title. They say there's 2/3 chance it will be recovered, possibly with serious damage. I figure the cop might've scribbled my phone and/or the report # wrong.... more »

I will be building addition for my old house and replacing siding. I am leaning towards fiber cement or cedar siding. My house currently has no house wrap. I want to install exterior foam insulation boards over entire house and new addition. I have a couple of questions. 1. Since exterior foam insulation boards are 1" to 2" thick what to do... more »
