Wow. That's a lot of fun to listen to. Great, infectious hook in the chorus. Damn you! That's going to be an ear worm for the rest of the afternoon.
The mix, in my humble estimation, is excellent. Very nice balance among the parts. Good guitar tones; the lead tone is maybe a tad corny, but that fits the song, and who am I to accuse anything of corniness?.
On the second listen I started to think that maybe the main vox is just a tad too out front. Maybe if it were buried just little bit, with a bit of distance-giving 'verb (just a teeny touch) it would help place the "band" on a stage in a roadhouse of the imagination. But what do I know?

Thanks! That's about the highest compliment I can think of. I noticed my kids and their significant others humming and whistling that chorus while I was working on the song; that's when I got the feeling the chorus was a winner.

I guess corniness was part of the vibe I was trying to create!

Setting levels is something I'm still struggling with a bit. I think I burned three CDs while fiddling with the bass and kick drum levels as well as that guitar that comes in during the choruses before I was satisfied with those.
With the vocals it's always a struggle for me to strike the right balance between over-prominence and audibility of the lyrics. I *do* have a bit of 'verb on there (it's most easily noticed in the countdown at the beginning) as well as a delay (1/8 note left, 1/4 note right) to make the vocal a bit fuller. I'll play some more with the 'verb.
> Nice stuff. You've got good ears, dude.
Thanks! I've actually had all the music parts in place (except for that "corny" guitar) for a couple of months and have been struggling with the lyrics since.
That "I got myself all straight with Jesus and disregard everything he teaches" line came to me in a flash while I was at work, the last bit of lyrics to fall into place.

Sounds like overkill. I only mentioned the vocals (and only on the chorus) because it sounds like a female backup but I couldn't hear it. Maybe just my old-dog ears.
I'd leave it the way it is. Classic!~~ I was wondering of anybody in aga was going to respond. Figures it would be Marc. LOL I can't talk to that guy...He's too BS.

There's a pair of tracks that are doubling the backing vocals an octave higher (not a female, just me).

I kinda figured that...It's pretty cool. That was why I wanted the higher octave -up- cause it was making the chorus more interesting.

OK, gotcha. Actually the octave-up vocals are pretty prominent on the monitors and headphones compared with this computer's speakers and also listening on my car's system. I'll fiddle with them a bit.

The drums are done using Sonar's built-in Session Drummer synth. But I learned something from watching my kid do the mixing on that other song I put up recently. He put a lot of compression on the snare, so I tried doing the same thing for this song. It seemed to work pretty well, also I put a big EQ peak around 60 Hz on the kick so you can *feel* it.

I don't really have a good stereo system anywhere. My monitors are midrange-heavy as are my headphones, what passes for a stereo system in the house has a shot speaker, not to mention that my treble hearing is fading fast. So I wind up relying on you guys to be my ears so to speak. One reason I like to get a lot of comments is that they're kind of a sample audience, if a few people wind up making the same sort of comment, I can deduce that it's not necessarily just one person's system that's off, it's probably mine. Anyway, I won't do anything rash!

I disagree about the guitar tracks: "needing to be redone". But I get the campy thing.

You deserve a good stereo - go get one, life is short (tell em to put it on my tab, or just to give you one and you'll remember them when your famous- or something) .
