About 6 months ago I went ahead and had some acrylic nails put on. Very happy with them and there is a nail place within walking distance from me so it's nice and easy. I have a couple of questions. Do the tips ever need to be replaced? I just keep getting fills about every two months and all has been going well with them. Last week was the first time I broke one as I was doing something that hit my hand down hard and part of one broke off, but not the whole thing. I walked over to the nail place and showed the lady and she just popped off what was still on and then just used the fill stuff on top of my old nail which was now long enough. I thought she would put a new tip on but she didn't. It seems nice and hard but I'm not so sure I have as much confidence in it now. Is that the normal way to do it? Thanks.

Derek and Lumpy.....Did you ever have the tips on?

One time he put a tip on at my request. I was experimenting with really long nails. But as soon as that grew out, he went back to simply filling them.
About once a year I let them grow out quite a ways and then have them removed, just so I can check for any problems. I've never had any fungus or any other problems in the natural nails. Been doing it for about 5 yrs.
I've got them a little shorter than I used to have right now. I'm playing a lot of standup bass. The really long talons get in the way of some of that puk-it-a-puh stuff when playing jazz bass.
But the short answer is, no plastic tips needed, just the resin. If you find they get yellow with exposure to UV, find another nail shop. The cheap product yellows. The good stuff doesn't.
I generally get the pink tinted stuff on mine. It's not pink like "Hello Kitty" pink. It's pink like very slight skin tone. Looks more natural than clear. Then I keep the surface "matte finished" with a piece of 2400 grit micro mesh paper.

It seems a little gay... do you do all fingers both hands ? Don't do deep red please.. ; ' ) - e
You sound like my redneck neighbor! He laughed for two days and though it was so funny. Once you get them filed the right way no one will ever be able to tell that you have them.

Actually, Ed's right. Having your nails done immediately turns you in to a homosexual. The first time I had mine done, I went right to the nearest gay bar and sang YMCA at karaoke. Then I went home and redecorated my bathroom and signed up for classes at the local cosmetology school.

Wow, mine must be delayed onset. However, I have had an urge to go shoe shopping recently.

Or maybe not. "Ah. That explains a lot," she might say.
