Subject: TD4 fron prop joint failure ?
Car running fine but noticed a bit more drive noise than usual. Pulled up in
traffic jam on M6 (so nought unusual there) and when I went to pull away I
came to a stumbling/juddering stop. On inspection (by recovery team) it
seems the joint at the front end of the front prop has blown its oil seal
(it is sitting around the prop shaft) and consequently oils has been
dispersed.

Anyone any ideas on what will be the best way forward here ...... what to
check and best and worst case scenario.

Cheers ......... Richard

Stick a new prop on. Thats the simple scenario.

More complex scenario is the earth cable having snapped and the vehicle has
earthed through the gearbox and axles welding all of them solid, this is
typical of "odd" things that happen on the motorway ..... kiddin'!

Once the prop is off you will have a better idea.

Lee,

Interesting ........ investigation revealed front joint completely broken up
probably caused (certainly helped) by the fact an engine stabiliser bolt had
come out (that was sitting on the underbody guard) !! All replaced + front
mounting bearing.

Also, IRD breather pipe was replaced, and correctly located (that had an
iffy route) .......... along with a failing (perished) rear silencer
mounting rubber.

So going nicely again at the mo ...........
