I was kind of following her tweets- some are funny- however when I saw this one the other day, I had to wonder: does she REALLY think she is someone important?
The first tweet, of the series, starts at the bottom- apparently she was on a plane with some woman who sat next to her, that horrors, didn't recognize KEELY THE GREAT. The 939 AM ones starts it off.
@strawberryjam10 I swear. It was the most bizarre plane ride of all time.I can't believe I forgot to tell you! It's way funnier off Twitter.
Since apparently I look completely different offstage (?) I just nodded my head and said, "Mmhmm" and she kept right on talking...
9:39 AM Nov 4th from web Last month a woman on the plane showed me 6 pictures of my boss and me onstage together and then asked, "Ever seen the show?" Um...Really?
So apparently Miss Thang thinks that people should and must recognize her greatness off stage and sans makeup and costume. I tell you what, as long as I've followed the man hisself, if Keely or even Monica sat next to me on a plane I highly doubt I would recognize either. For the most part with out her makeup and costumes, she looks like ANY OTHER ORDINARY PERSON out there- there is nothing gorgeous, unique or otherwise about her. And since she isn't covered as much as B that many people probably don't even know what she looks like up close and in person.
The only one I would recognize is Kye- mainly because he stands out more and he has a myspace page and such that you can get a good look at him-
So sorry Keely, you're not that unique and memorable. I just thought the post to be a bit rude and insulting to her seat mate. Why didn't she just tell her who she was? The woman probably would've been thrilled.
Hope B sees this and realizes that his back ups now think they're entitled and VIPs.

I didn't take her tweets as saying she was Ms. Important Thang. I took them to mean it's sorta bizarre that someone could be showing her photos of Keely, and not know she was showing them to Keely. It was a Twilight Zone moment.
I wouldn't know any of his current backup singers if I bumped into them on the street, except maybe Kye. And I'm sure Keely looks very different off-stage. So it's not bizarre to me that this person wouldn't recognize Keely.
But what I took from these tweets was, it was just an odd situation. Plus when she said the story is "way funnier off Twitter," it made me think that perhaps this fan was bizarre in other ways. I say that having been stuck with some pretty odd folks in airports and on planes going to and from Manilow shows. Who knows what this person said to her thinking she was just Jill Civilian.

As an example, someone in line for a show several years ago was dead serious when she said she had given birth to Barry's baby, and when he came through her town, he stayed in her basement.

It struck me as a funny story. If someone sat next to you on a plane, pulled out pictures of you on stage and asked if you'd ever seen whatever show you were in at the time - c'mon, that's hilarious! It would be entirely different if the woman didn't have photos with Keely in them - sure, why should an average person going to a show recognize the people who are generally lit pretty poorly throughout the show when they're out and about? But to actually have a bunch of pictures...and not even think "gee, my seat-mate actually looks a little like this young woman" - is funny to me. And probably should have been a bit humbling to Keely. She took it as funny. *shrug*

I just think it was meant to be funny and nothing more or less. Your post makes you sound as if you are a bit jealous (sorry, but that's how it comes off).
> 9:39 AM Nov 4th from web Last month a woman on the plane showed me 6 > pictures of my boss and me onstage together and then asked, "Ever seen > the show?" Um...Really?
I find it kind of cute that she calls him "my boss". There are so many out there that are jealous of her and convinced that there is something else going on between them off stage. I remember seeing some photos of them coming out of a restaurant while in the UK during the O2 concerts. Those pictures sure had some of the fans showing their fangs and the rumors ran wild for a while. Not too many were complimentary if I recall correctly. Actually, she is a very sweet girl if you get to talk to her.

What on earth would I be jealous about?!? I just took it that she seemed to think that people should 'recognize her'. I guess I don't see the humor in it- yeah, someone pulls out a photo of her with B off their cell phone and I'm sure with the quality of cell phone pictures- it would be hard to tell who HE is- and I'm sure Keely looks very ordinary without the stage makeup, and I guess I can't imagine someone thinking that they should be instantly recognized like Barry. If she sat next to me, I doubt very much I'd recognize her.

I agree that it is hilarious. Think of this another way. Pretend you were the CSWY girl and you were in a plane and someone took photos of you and Barry and asked you if you ever saw the show. That would be funny to me. One other comment... Keely seems to have a good sense of humor from these posts. I also think in some ways she is lucky not to be Barry. She may not be as rich and famous as Barry, but she has privacy in her life. She does not have to be perfect in public all the time like a star does. Say the wrong thing at the wrong time if you are the star and you may wind up on TMZ. in an unflattering light. If Barry was on the same plane, odds are good that he would never be left alone and would have to be very careful with everything he does and says. Keely has more freedom by not being well- known. I guess I missed where it said these photos were on a cell phone. Maybe they were on the gal's laptop. Or maybe they were printouts.

BTW, if you want to see someone who was totally pissed when he wasn't recognized, check out that clip of Barry on American Idol when the makeup lady thought he was the black man at the keyboard. If looks could incinerate, she'd have been a pile of ashes.
Luckily Debra was there to defuse the situation, and made Barry laugh it off by saying to him, "Breathe, breathe." And saying the makeup lady would have to get a different color makeup, which caused him laugh, and say, "That's f**king depressing." It was hilarious. ;^)

Really? I think she's absolutely gorgeous. I've seen her walking through the hotel, sans makeup and she is very recognizable if you've seen Barry's shows and know his band.
She is also extremely sweet and just the opposite of everything you have described.
I found her tweet rather funny. Someone going on and on about Barry, you would think, would notice that they are sitting next to Keely. But, I have come across quite a few people who really have no interest in anyone other than Barry so and green elephant could be on the stage with him and they wouldn't notice. This woman might have been one of those or just someone who hasn't seen the shows much or, didn't have a close up seat.
Keely telling her she works with Barry? I certainly can't see why she would do that.

You are so right about this, Scooter.
When we went to the convention in May, Harry & I were looking at some things through the window of the "M" store and this woman came up to us and asked us if we were there for the convention. Once we said yes, she just whipped out this photo album and started talking about each one. She made a point of talking about the "dirty" pictures (her exact term for them). Basically, crotch and butt shots. She said she showed this book to Barry during her platinum and talked about the "dirty" pictures with him. Can you imagine?? I couldn't wait to get away from her. The next morning, my room phone rang and it was HER asking me what we were doing that day. I was just shocked. So, I can only imagine what this woman might have been saying to Keely on the plane. Anytime someone starts whipping out photos of Barry, I'm out the door. I've never really been into that.

Scooter is right- the situation with Barry was hilarious, because in his mind, everyone knows who he is, especially someone who is working on AI in which he is a the guest star. While this incident might look like Barry has an inflated ego, I think any big star might think the world knows their every move, particularly when there are paparazzi all around to photograph a star at any given moment. In our era, with all the twitters, bloggers, a star can actually rationally think that everyone knows who he is, because the star knows that in any given moment, you could have an unflattering video or photo of you in the tabloid press or TMZ. Working in Vegas and living in southern California just reinforces those perceptions. Marvin

One of the really creepy fans glommed onto a friend of mine at the DC convention, and just would not go away for a couple of days. I can't remember how she finally got away from this person. There are some very odd people out there who sort of make the hair on your neck stand up.
I remember a fan who brought a huge photo album to a show at the Desert Inn back in 1992 or 1993. As everyone was waiting in line, she wasn't stand or sitting, but literally laying in the floor, looking at page after page of her own album, totally oblivious to the crowd around her.
Everything I've ever heard about Keely is that she's a very sweet person. So I'm thinking she simply encountered a Fanilow with photos.

I'm not sure but somewhere I thought I saw cellphone, but even if she had real kodak photos it's still hard to see the details of the backup singers- such as their faces up close. Even B would be hard to recognize if you weren't a hard core fan. The only person who takes great pics of B is MrsAndyQ over on the Bnet and even in her photos you can't see the back ups very well.
While like Marvin said she can ENJOY going unrecognized, I guess those who are more obscure probably wish they were noticed more.

I never said she was unattractive, but there are millions out there who are good looking people. I am implying that she isn't Pamela Anderson, Sophia Loren or another drop dead gorgeous, instantly recognizable person. Even I wouldn't know her if she walked up to me as long as I've followed Barry.
And why not tell the woman that was HER in the photos? I would think that would be fun to see the look on her face.

It's definitely based on opinion because I don't find Pam Anderson drop dead gorgeous in the slightest. She's pretty and looks a lot better without the make up. But gorgeous? Not to me.
As for not telling the fan who she is? Well, I guess you'd have to be there to see what exactly was happening in the conversation, but if she was a kook and she was sitting next to Keely, it was probably for the best that she did not identify herself.
You don't have to be following Barry for very long to know who Keely is. She hasn't been with him all that long. I've been a fan for 31 years and she's been around a small fraction of that time. I would know her, if I saw her on the street. I might not know the rest of the band. But, his back ups... yes, I would definitely recognize them because they are an integral part of the show and my focus is not only on Barry when they are with him.

Sadly, no, because it was one of those rare glimpses into the real man. I truly wonder what would have happened had Debra not been there. I think the clip was on YouTube, but was nuked by those in charge of all things Manilow on the web.

I wonder if they have that season out on dvd? It might be on there.
