Someone's produced a way cool real-time speech to speech language translator
for the iPhone. (Check out the vid.) I daresay someone will code a lie
detector at some point which would make the Birdie (TM) a reality.

We're living in the future!

It's real time? That is rather impressive. I hope we get a page in 2000AD
about how they predicted the future. I recall the riot foam one, but can't
mind if that was in an annual or the weekly. I read somewhere today that
Xerox has developed a silver ink that can be printed, thereby making the
creation of PCB a lot easier. Of course, I've been reading far far too much
Warhammer, so the first thought I had was STC- Standard Template
Construction. I have read about 30 novels since whenever it was I first
posted here about the first book I'd got. Here, John, if you can get hold of
Dan Abnett, tell him that Eisenhorn was great. Took me a while to get round
to it, as I wanted to finish all the Horus Heresy stuff first, then I was
distracted by the Blood Ravens and the Space Wolves. Reading Eisenhorn was
like listening to a confession! I'll get Ravenor next, once the Black
Library is back up. The whole ethos and doctrine of the imperium of man aint
too far away from Be Pure, Be Vigilant, BEHAVE i think!

Probably shouldn't have said real-time because that implies on the fly
translation which is much trickier. You sometimes have to second guess and
refer back to earlier stuff to stay on the ball. Those EU translators
certainly earn their money.

I could use something like this. Looking up words in a translation
dictionary is a PITA. I've been around some Japanese thing and you almost
expect the dictionaries to start rustling and people tread water while you
hack through this shit. Then again, it sinks in deeper.

There's potential for something like you suggest. Personally, I'd take it
further and look into books and product tie-ins. But that needs higher
profile branding and more engaged marketing. Problem is, the British are no
good at or are allergic to this.
