When Dredd fires his lawgiver the perps can shoot several feet up into
the air - a bit like what they did in Minority Report but even more
exaggerated than that. For example, if Dredd fires a hi-ex round, the
actors can be on wires on a greenscreen and pulled up. The movement
can be composited onto actual set footage to create huge 'bullet
impact' reaction shots. Dredd can shoot a perp and he's forced back
through an entire room or other location. That would be cool. Dredd
shoots at a car and the car is forced hundreds of feet into the sky.
For a new Dredd film to work it will have to be a bit over-the-top
action-wise. Really spectacular to compete with all the other sci-fi
action films out there. You need to show Dredd is super tough and his
lawgiver is the toughest handgun ever created.
Another element would be thousands of cits in many exterior shots of
the city. Dredd could race along a megway and we see thousands of cits
walking by. Not hundreds, but thousands. A mass of humanity. If you
could CGI or motion-capture the citizens you could have lots of
sweeping camera angles throughout the city and really get the feeling
it's a city of 400 million potential perps.
For a Dredd film to work it has to be really epic, spectacular - you
have to believe this is an insane nightmare world of 400 million
people and the Judges are the only people to prevent total anarchy.:)
