Cheat Sheet Creation Process

Cheat Sheet Creation Process

All cheat sheets go through a few steps before they're released, and this group will fill an important role in that process, especially as I create more cheat sheets for languages I am less than familiar with!

  • Cheat Sheet Requested - Votes for that cheat sheet start building up.
  • Cheat Sheet moved to In Progress - As one is finished, I'll pick a new one from the list to start working on. Usually this will be the top voted one.
  • Content List Created - This is where the group is most useful. The content for the cheat sheet needs to be picked. I've aimed to try to add the information people spend time looking up, or that's not necessarily easy to remember, especially for people starting out with a language or technology.
  • Content List Agreed - Once there's a decent list of content to pick from, we'll thin it out as a group, and then I'll start arranging it.
  • Cheat Sheet Preview - First version will be sent out to the group for suggestions, feedback and review. Setting them out logically is as important as getting the content right.
  • Cheat Sheet Release - Once it's good enough, it gets sent out into the world wild web! Woohoo!

Member benefits include: a smug sense of self-satisfaction as you hang up a new cheat sheet your colleagues don't yet have access to. And the ability to say "I helped make that". I'll try and post stats on downloads to the list when I remember - it's only fair if people are helping that they get to know how many other people they've helped.

I'm not promising anything for now, as this project's only just starting out, but I do intend to add credit to the cheat sheet description page for those people who've helped, with links to their site. However, how feasible this is may depend on how many people get involved, and how involved they get, so this will be played by ear to begin with.

Any questions can of course be posted to me directly at dave@addedbytes.com.

Finally ...

To make it easy for people to follow progress on any one cheat sheet, please prefix messages to the group with the name of the cheat sheet you are referencing, for example: "[Python] Suggested Content for the Python Cheat Sheet".
